Ordering a churro at Walt Disney World usually comes with a pretty clear expectation. You get a long piece of fried dough covered in cinnamon sugar, and you're probably eating it while walking through a theme park.
Magic Kingdom is changing that formula in Frontierland.
Disney is introducing Churro Loops at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe beginning July 21. The new dessert takes the flavors guests expect from a churro but serves them in a much smaller format.
The loops come tossed in cinnamon sugar and include house-made chocolate sauce for dipping.
While Disney has not announced plans to eliminate traditional churros throughout Walt Disney World, the new offering shows how the company continues to experiment with even its most familiar theme park foods.
A Smaller Take on a Disney Favorite
The biggest difference is obvious as soon as you look at the name.
These aren't full-length churros.
Disney has transformed the traditional snack into small loops, creating something that feels more like a plated dessert or shareable snack than something guests grab before heading to their next attraction.
The chocolate dipping sauce adds another difference. Cinnamon sugar remains the main flavor, but guests now have the option of coating each piece in house-made chocolate sauce.
That could make Churro Loops particularly well suited for Pecos Bill.
Unlike a snack cart where guests might grab a churro and immediately continue through the park, Pecos Bill is a quick-service restaurant with seating. Guests can add the loops to a meal or split an order around the table.
It is a different way to eat one of Disney World's most recognizable snacks without completely changing what made churros popular.
Disney Is Also Shrinking a Returning Burger
Interestingly, churros aren't the only familiar food getting a smaller makeover at Pecos Bill.
Disney is adding a Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger made with Angus beef, American cheese, house-made bacon jam, and barbecue sauce. French fries come on the side.
Guests who have followed the Pecos Bill menu over the years may remember a similar burger.
The restaurant previously offered a Double Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger. That meal included two flame-broiled beef patties topped with American cheese, bacon, and Coca-Cola cherry barbecue sauce.
The newest version drops the second patty and changes several ingredients.
Instead of regular bacon, Disney is using house-made bacon jam. The previous Coca-Cola cherry barbecue sauce is also gone in favor of barbecue sauce.
It is another example of Disney taking something guests may recognize and reworking it rather than bringing it back exactly as it appeared before.
Frontierland Has Another New Meal Coming
Golden Oak Outpost is also getting involved in the July 21 menu changes.
Guests will be able to order Hot Honey Chicken Strips accompanied by sweet potato waffle fries. Disney is topping those fries with marshmallow and candied pecans, creating a combination of savory, spicy, and sweet flavors.
That gives Frontierland three new items arriving at the same time.
For longtime Disney snack fans, however, Churro Loops may be the addition that immediately stands out.
The traditional churro isn't being wiped off Disney World menus, but Pecos Bill is taking the familiar idea in a different direction. Instead of one long cinnamon-sugar treat, guests get smaller loops with chocolate sauce ready for dipping.
Whether guests consider that an upgrade or simply wish Disney had stuck with the classic format will come down to personal preference.
Either way, the iconic Disney churro just got a lot smaller in Frontierland.
