Magic Kingdom guests have watched the western side of the park change dramatically, and another longtime location is now caught in the middle of that transformation.
The Diamond Horseshoe stopped operating as a traditional table-service restaurant earlier this year, temporarily giving its historic dining room over to Jessie’s Roundup for Cool KIDS’ SUMMER.
That was never expected to be the end of the story.
Disney has now confirmed what comes next, and guests shouldn't expect The Diamond Horseshoe to simply return to the way it operated before.
Disney Closed The Diamond Horseshoe’s Traditional Dining Experience
The Diamond Horseshoe temporarily ended table-service dining beginning May 16, clearing the way for Jessie’s Roundup.
Before the change, the restaurant had become closely tied to Liberty Tree Tavern. Guests could enjoy the familiar family-style feast with turkey, pot roast, pork, mashed potatoes, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, and other comfort-food favorites.
Disney is moving away from that setup at The Diamond Horseshoe.
The company has confirmed a new limited-time pop-up will debut October 4, replacing the previous dining format with something much different.
Reservations open September 29, although walk-ups will also be welcomed.
A Completely Different Menu Is Coming
Rather than another large family-style meal, the new Diamond Horseshoe experience focuses on shareable small plates.
Disney's lineup includes charcuterie with cured beef, candied bacon, smoked pork, cheeses, and pickles. Guests can also order glazed sticky ribs with cowboy beans and jalapeño crisps.
Other choices include queso fundido with barbecue burnt ends, sweet golden corn fritters, a chipotle chicken tostada, and a mini hot dog platter.
The beverage lineup is changing considerably, too.
Non-alcoholic selections include Orange Cream Soda, Caramel Root Beer with Sweet Cream, Enchanting Ember Lemonade, and Enchanted Grove Lime Splash.
Disney is also introducing cocktails including the Whinnyin' Whiskey Lemonade, Cactus Rose Margarita, High Plains Huckleberry, Rattler Rum Punch, and Coal'd Fashioned. Wine and draft beer will also be available.
Guests who preferred the old meal aren't completely out of luck. Disney says the family-style Thanksgiving-inspired dishes remain available next door at Liberty Tree Tavern.

Frontierland Continues to Change
The timing makes The Diamond Horseshoe update particularly notable.
Magic Kingdom is already experiencing major changes around Frontierland as Disney develops the future Piston Peak National Park area.
The Diamond Horseshoe itself isn't being permanently removed. Instead, Disney is changing how guests use one of the area's most recognizable historic locations.
There's another important detail: Disney is calling this a limited-time pop-up. No closing date has been announced.
That leaves the long-term future of The Diamond Horseshoe somewhat open.
For now, guests know the next chapter begins October 4. When the doors open for dining again, The Diamond Horseshoe won't simply be returning from a closure.
It will offer a substantially different Magic Kingdom experience.
