Disney Confirms Ongoing Updates at Main Street Dining Location

If you’ve walked down Main Street, U.S.A. recently and stopped into The Plaza Restaurant, you may have had that familiar feeling that something is just a little different. Not in a dramatic way—but enough to catch your attention if you’ve been there before.

That’s not by accident.

Disney has begun making ongoing updates to this classic Magic Kingdom dining location, and based on what we’re seeing so far, these changes aren’t happening all at once. Instead, they’re being introduced gradually, with more expected to follow throughout 2026.

It’s a quieter approach, but one that fits how Disney has been evolving its parks lately.

Subtle Changes Are Already Happening

The biggest clue that something is shifting at The Plaza Restaurant comes from its menu.

After holding steady for quite some time, the restaurant has started refreshing its milkshake offerings—one of its most recognizable features. Two new flavors have joined the lineup:

  • Cookies ‘n Cream Milk Shake
  • Chocolate-Hazelnut Milk Shake

At the same time, Disney kept a couple of long-standing options available, including the strawberry shortcake shake and the customizable classic version.

This isn’t a full menu overhaul. It’s more of a targeted update, swapping out select items while leaving the rest intact.

That kind of change might seem small, but at a restaurant known for consistency, it’s a big signal.

A Phased Strategy in Action

Disney’s decision to update The Plaza Restaurant in stages lines up with a broader trend we’ve been seeing across Walt Disney World.

Instead of closing locations entirely for refurbishments, Disney has leaned into phased updates. It allows operations to continue while improvements are made behind the scenes.

For guests, it means fewer disruptions. For Disney, it means the ability to test changes and adjust as needed.

In the case of The Plaza Restaurant, it creates a sense that the location is evolving in real time rather than being completely reimagined overnight.

Why This Location Matters

The Plaza Restaurant may not be the most talked-about dining spot in Magic Kingdom, but it holds an important role.

It offers a calmer, more traditional dining experience right in the heart of the park. For many guests, it’s a go-to for a sit-down meal that doesn’t feel overwhelming.

Because of that, any changes here carry a bit more weight. Disney has to balance modernization with nostalgia, making sure the restaurant still feels like the same place guests remember.

So far, that balance seems to be working.

What Guests Should Expect Moving Forward

While only a few updates have been introduced so far, the fact that Disney has started making changes at all suggests more could be coming.

That could include:

  • Additional menu refreshes
  • Limited-time or seasonal items
  • Small updates to service or presentation
  • Potential long-term enhancements to the space

Nothing has been officially confirmed beyond what’s already visible, but the pattern is clear. Disney isn’t treating this as a one-time update.

Instead, The Plaza Restaurant appears to be entering a period of ongoing evolution.

Still the Same, But Not Standing Still

For now, The Plaza Restaurant remains very much what it has always been—a reliable, charming spot on Main Street, U.S.A.

But it’s no longer frozen in time.

Disney is actively making adjustments, and while they may be subtle, they show that even the most traditional locations aren’t off-limits when it comes to change.

For guests, that makes each visit a little more interesting. You might walk in expecting the same experience you’ve always had—and walk out realizing that something new has quietly been added.

And in 2026, that seems to be exactly the point.
