Disney Creator Earned $267,000 In a Year, Works Less Than Two Hours a Day

Disney creators are some of the most talented individuals there are. They make history and become an inextricable part of the Disney community. Sometimes, however, these individuals’ accomplishments surpass that of the Disney fandom, and what they achieve transcends the boundaries the fandom affords them. And this is one such story. A 29-year-old artist has made headlines recently for setting up a successful business, earning (so far) $22,000 per month, working less than two hours a day on her business.

Domonique Brown is a California-based artist who created her brand Domo Ink—”a lifestyle brand that contributes art, apparel, and home decor in celebration of diversity and empowerment”—after she struggled to find art that she felt represented her. Brown shared that when the pandemic began, she worked 80-hour work weeks for two full-time marketing jobs and earned a combined salary of $129,000 a year. However, feeling like she was missing something, Brown quit one of her jobs and began a side hustle as an artist. Brown creates “original artwork using crayons and markers, and [prints her] designs on everything from socks to laptop cases to sneakers.”

While it was a lot of work to get the business off the ground, Brown shares that the effort is paying off; she has collaborated and created for big companies like the Walt Disney Company, Samsung, Lowe’s, the L.A. Lakers, and Bath and Body Works.

She shares, “Today, I make $22,000 a month selling art online through my website, my Etsy and Society6 shops, and retail stores like Target and Home Goods.”

For Brown, she likes to make work and art that shines a light on important topics. She shared, “Growing up, I was often the only Black kid in my class, and I found it hard to find things that represented my background. My father and I would go out of our way to find greeting cards that had images of Black families on it. We’d buy them from individual sellers because many retailers didn’t carry them.”

Today, Brown spends around 10 hours a week on her side hustle; in 2021, her work and collaborations earned her $267,000. It’s an incredibly inspiring story of what creators can do with dedication and effort.
