While it is self-described as the most magical way to sail the seas, Disney Cruise Line remains arguably one of the strictest cruise ship operators when it comes to lingering pandemic-reasoned mandates and restrictions. But it appears that it will be removing some of its vaccine mandates in the coming weeks for select sailings.

According to Disney Cruise Line’s updated website,

Beginning September 2, 2022, for sailings departing US and Canadian ports, Disney Cruise Line will require Guests ages 12 and older to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the time of sailing, as defined by the CDC. In consideration of CDC guidance, Disney Cruise Line highly recommends that Guests ages 11 and younger be fully vaccinated before sailing.

Currently, Disney Cruise Line demands that all families wishing to sail aboard the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream, and Disney Wish have all “vaccine eligible” members as young as five years old be “fully vaccinated,” however that designation be currently defined by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Now, just as school gets back into full swing and family summer vacations come to an end, it seems that those demands are lessening for sailings out of the United States and Canada.

Disney Cruise Line sailings currently depart from Port Canaveral, Florida; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Miami, Florida; Galveston, Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; New York, New York; San Diego, California; Honolulu, Hawai’i; and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is unclear if sailings out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, will also be included in this change.

This lightening of the policy also comes just in time for “Spooky Season” and all of the families looking to experience Disney Cruise Line’s “Halloween on the High Seas.”

It should be noted, however, that while certain Guests no longer need to be vaccinated to gain permission to board the cruise ship, the policies found at the Ports of Call can vary and may not be aligned with those of Disney Cruise Line.

Disney Cruise Line states clearly on its website,

“All Guests are required to adhere to local laws, regulations and protocols, including those related to health and safety, in place at the destination.”

We at Disney Fanatic will continue to monitor Disney Cruise Line’s progress back to normal-sea, and we will continue to update our readers on Disney Cruise Line news and stories as more developments come to light.
