Disney’s Tree of Life
Disney World’s Tree of Life is an iconic symbol and centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
The theme park icon is a massive artificial tree at the center of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It is an intricately detailed sculpture that represents the interconnectedness of all living things in nature. Designed to resemble a baobab tree, a type of tree found in Africa, it is adorned with thousands of intricate carvings of animals, birds, and other creatures, each meticulously crafted by Disney Imagineers. The carvings depict various species from different ecosystems around the world, celebrating the diversity of life on Earth.
Inside the Tree of Life is the attraction “It’s Tough to Be a Bug!”, which is a 3D film based on the Pixar movie A Bug’s Life (1998). Guests enter the tree’s roots and are treated to a humorous and immersive journey through the world of bugs, complete with special effects and animatronics. The attraction will be remodeled, however, in the near future to a Zootopia (2016) theme.
Surrounding the Tree of Life are the Discovery Island Trails, a series of walking paths that allow guests to explore the base of the tree and discover even more intricate carvings and details. Along these trails, guests can get up close to the tree’s roots and admire the craftsmanship up close.
In the evening, the Tree of Life comes to life with the “Tree of Life Awakenings” projection show. Through stunning projections and lighting effects, the tree is transformed into a dynamic canvas, showcasing the beauty of nature and celebrating the circle of life.
The Tree of Life is not only a visually stunning icon but also serves as a symbol of Disney’s commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship, reflecting the park’s theme of celebrating and preserving the natural world.
