CONFIRMED: ‘Zootopia’ Is Replacing Classic ‘Bug’s Life’ Show

Many wonderful and exciting new offerings are coming to the Disney theme parks (and some are even arriving on a worldwide scale, not just in Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort), but we have just learned that at least one new attraction is coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the expense of a classic Tree of Life attraction!

Goodbye to Creepy-Crawlies…

It’s Tough to Be a Bug is “a creepy crawly bug-eyed adventure” that takes place in a theater within the Tree of Life, and that is directly inspired by the Pixar movie A Bug’s Life from 1998.

It’s Tough to Be a Bug features plenty of jump scares and sensorial experiences — but the show is apparently being removed to make way for something new!

…Hello to Nick and Judy!

At Destination D23, we have just learned that It’s Tough to Be a Bug is being replaced by a Zootopia attraction. Zootopia was a popular 2016 animated movie about predators, prey, and the way that the two groups coexist in an anthropomorphic world.

The film was also a buddy-cop movie that focused on the dynamic between a rabbit (Judy Hopps, played by Ginnifer Goodwin) and a fox (Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman).

According to Disney’s higher-ups (who revealed the news at Destination D23 today), this Zootopia attraction will be the new Tree of Life show. It will involve “humor,” “action,” the enchanting habitats from the original movie, and some “biomes [that we] have yet to see”!

Nick Wilde, Judy Hopps, and the cheetah named Benjamin Clawhauser are characters who will be reappearing for the new show — although time will tell when it comes to whether or not Clawhauser has his donuts!

Will This Really Be “Good for Everyone”?

Destination D23 audience members were too busy worrying about the future of DinoLand U.S.A to mourn the A Bug’s Life show at this time, but Disney Chairman Josh D’Amaro did emphasize that “new experiences” are “good for everyone,” perhaps anticipating some Disney fans’ complaints down the line.

“I know you have high expectations,” D’Amaro added. Are you happy to hear that this Pixar movie attraction is being replaced by Zootopia in the Animal Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort?
