Disney fans have been eagerly awaiting Walt Disney Studios’ latest live-action remakes, but the excitement has been peppered with controversy. Between recent casting decisions for movies like The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan and Wendy leaving many fans feeling frustrated and disappointed, and others questioning whether the Mouse House is still capable of capturing the magic of their beloved classics, it’s been rough tides for Disney.

When the Walt Disney Company released the first trailer for the live-action adaptation of Peter Pan, the beloved 1953 animated classic based on J.M. Barrie’s famous children’s story, some fans were excited to see their favorite characters come to life in a new way, many were left feeling nostalgic and disappointed by one particular decision made by Disney: the casting of actress Yara Shahidi—known for her role in Black-ish—as Tinker Bell.

While the previous trailer created that kind of controversy, the one Disney released on April 10, 2023—their most recent one—has left fans more than unimpressed.

The trailer takes us through the movie’s plot, and although it is well known, as some fans pointed out, it’s simply too detailed and gives away the entire story. One fan, Yuri Dattola, shared, “Audience: ‘How much of the movie do you want to show in your trailer?’ Disney: ‘YES!!!’”

Another fan, Brett Kimura, shared, “Not gonna be surprised if this is the whole movie.”

But that wasn’t all. Fans weren’t thrilled with the quality either.

One shared, “Everything Disney puts out now looks like it’d be straight to dvd if it came out 15 years ago. Might watch part of it when it debuts on Disney+.” Yet another shared, “The first cartoons are forever in the heart, no remakes will replace them.”

Despite this, some fans were touched by what they sharing that specific scenes brought “a tear to their eye.” What the movie has in store for us, only time will tell.

“Peter Pan & Wendy” stars Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, the beloved fairy who accompanies Peter Pan and acts as his guide in the magical world of Neverland. The film also stars Jude Law as Captain Hook, Ever Anderson as Wendy Darling, and Alexander Molony as Peter Pan. Talented director David Lowery, known for his work on “Pete’s Dragon”, is at the helm of the production.
