At Tokyo Disney Resort, large crowds are nothing new. Yet the scenes that unfolded the night before September 30 went far beyond the usual bustle. Guests filled walkways and lined up for hours outside one of the resort’s most coveted entry points, testing the limits of crowd control at a park known worldwide for its popularity.
For many, the main attraction was not just the park itself but the chance to experience one of its most acclaimed entertainment offerings for the very last time. The final day of a long-running stage show drew visitors in droves, amplifying already high demand for access to the gates of Tokyo DisneySea.

The result was unprecedented — enough to trigger extreme measures. By morning, Tokyo Disney Resort introduced a rare system to manage access and ensure guest safety.
Guests Crowd Grand Château Gateway Overnight
Tokyo Disney Resort, which includes Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, has developed a reputation for the massive crowds that gather at its entrances. Viral videos over the years have shown seas of people crammed outside Tokyo DisneySea — frequently described by fans as the best Disney park in the world.
This week, the chaos reached new heights at Fantasy Springs, the newest expansion of Tokyo DisneySea. Guests staying at the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel began lining up overnight at the Grand Château Gateway, the exclusive hotel guest-only entrance into the land.
Even in front of the entrance inside the Fantasy Springs Hotel, there are already dozens of people waiting for tomorrow's Happy Entry.
I checked with the cast member, and they said that this is purely hotel guests lining up on their own initiative, so the actual order may vary back and forth.#TDR__now

“Even in front of the entrance inside the Fantasy Springs Hotel, there are already dozens of people waiting for tomorrow's Happy Entry,” one update on X, formerly known as Twitter, noted. “I checked with the cast member, and they said that this is purely hotel guests lining up on their own initiative, so the actual order may vary back and forth.”
By late night, the line grew so long that guests said they couldn’t even see the front. “The cast member guy also said that since it's all too unprecedented, he couldn't fully grasp the situation…” another guest wrote.
Lottery Introduced Amid Final Show Crowds
To handle the surge, Tokyo Disney Resort rolled out a lottery system on the morning of September 30. The process began at 6 a.m. in the Grand Château Lounge, with one representative per hotel room allowed to enter the draw. Winners determined the entry order for the Grand Château Gateway’s Happy Entry admission.

“Due to expected crowding for the Happy Entry admission on September 30, entry order from Grand Château Gateway will be determined by lottery,” the resort announced. “We ask for your cooperation in ensuring safe operations.”
The added pressure came from the final performances of Big Band Beat: A Special Treat, a beloved Mickey Mouse jazz show that has run at Tokyo DisneySea since 2006. Guests hoped to secure Disney Premier Access tickets before they sold out, which reportedly happened as early as 8:01 a.m.
Crowds outside the resort grew so intense that police appeared on the scene overnight. “The police were here until just now, announcing over the speaker that a report had been made, but they basically did nothing and left,” one guest described online.

Fantasy Springs itself has only heightened demand since opening last year. The highly themed land includes mini areas based on Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan, with new attractions like Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey, Rapunzel's Lantern Festival, and Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure. Hotel guests typically enjoy an advantage thanks to direct access via the Grand Château Gateway, but the overwhelming turnout this week proved even those perks are not guaranteed.
Rooms at the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel are among the resort’s most expensive, pricier than accommodations at the Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel or the Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel. Booking a stay has long been one of the surest ways to guarantee entry into Fantasy Springs, but demand continues to exceed supply.
Whether the lottery system will be used again remains unclear, but for now, it stands as one of the rare moments when Tokyo Disney Resort was forced to limit access in dramatic fashion — even for its most privileged hotel guests.
