The closure of MuppetVision 3D marked the end of an era at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. For decades, the Muppets Courtyard was a cherished, laugh-filled corner of the park.

Now, those nostalgic laughs are being upgraded to monster power.
The area is officially transforming into “Monstropolis,” a sprawling new land based on Pixar’s massive hit, Monsters, Inc. After months of demolition and wild rumors about the theater's fate, a newly filed Walt Disney Imagineering permit is finally shedding light on what comes next. Here is exactly what is happening behind the construction walls.
Moving Indoors: What the New Permit Reveals
When a theme park attraction closes, the first and most visible step is tearing it down.

Recent visitors to Disney's Hollywood Studios have watched construction crews strip the iconic brick facade off the MuppetVision building. The exterior of the neighboring PizzeRizzo restaurant has also been demolished.
However, a new permit filed this week proves the project is officially moving indoors.
The filing explicitly calls for the “installation of new set elements” inside the former 3D theater. This indicates that the interior gutting is likely complete, and the creative construction is ready to begin.
Disney has hired Adirondack Scenic to install it. This highly respected fabrication company frequently collaborates with Walt Disney Imagineering.

They are famous in the theme park industry for building deeply immersive, highly detailed set pieces for world-class attractions. Their involvement guarantees a high level of thematic quality.
The permit also carries a standard one-year expiration date. This indicates the set installation should be completed by early March 2027. It is a strong sign that the aggressive construction timeline remains on track.
Addressing the Rumors: A Theater Show or a Meet-and-Greet?
While the physical construction is exciting, the intense speculation surrounding the theater has dominated the conversation.

When Monstropolis was first announced, Disney promised a brand-new Monsters, Inc. “theater show.” Early concept art displayed a vibrant marquee reading “The Monstro,” teasing “Late Night Screams.”
Fans immediately envisioned an interactive comedy club, perhaps a highly advanced successor to the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor at Magic Kingdom.
Then, the artwork quietly changed.

Updated renderings renamed the venue to “The Glob.” The marquee’s tagline was also swapped to a much tamer “Meet Monstropolis.” Furthermore, Disney completely left out the theater show from a recent Imagineering exhibit showcasing upcoming projects. Panic quickly ensued online.
Was Disney cutting costs? Were they downgrading the massive theater into a simple character meet-and-greet location?
Fortunately, Disney World officials have set the record straight. They confirmed that plans have not changed. The venue is still slated to host a full-fledged theater show.

This new permit firmly backs up Disney's claim. A theme park does not hire a premium theatrical contractor like Adirondack Scenic just to set up a basic photo backdrop. Guests can expect a highly produced attraction.
Expanding the Monster World
The reimagined theater is only one piece of the massive puzzle arriving at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Imagineering is completely overhauling the former Muppet Courtyard to plunge guests directly into the bustling monster world.

The undisputed highlight of the expansion will be Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster.
Designed to simulate the thrilling door vault chase from the 2001 film, this groundbreaking ride will let guests zoom alongside Mike and Sulley. It fulfills a fan-favorite fantasy that has existed for over twenty years.
Construction on the coaster is already highly visible. Aerial photos reveal massive cranes dominating the park's skyline. Extensive foundation and electrical work are underway for the coaster's massive show building.
The Future of Hollywood Studios
Disney's Hollywood Studios continues to evolve into a park filled with immersive, walk-through cinematic worlds. Monstropolis is the next massive leap in that journey, joining the ranks of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land.

Saying goodbye to Kermit and the gang was difficult for many long-time fans. However, the aggressive pace of this new permit shows Disney is fully committed to a monster-sized replacement.
The shift from demolition to set construction means the real magic is finally taking shape.

I can’t wait for all the food options to come here. Like Drooler Cooler Soda (by Coca-Cola), Scarebucks (by Starbucks), Tony’s Grossery, Krispy Scream Doughnuts (maybe by Krispy Cream Doughnuts), Abominable Snowman Snow Cones, Le Petit Grrr and of course Harryhausen’s.
I hope Monsters Inc Laugh Floor gets moved here.
I see that one half of the main factory will have the coaster. What if the other half has the Laugh Floor Show.
Redo Monsters Inc: Mike and Sulley to the rescue, as Monsters Inc: MIFT to the rescue.
