After more than 34 years of heckling, singing, and all-out chaos, Muppet*Vision 3D has taken its final bow at Walt Disney World. As of June 7, the beloved 3D/4D theater show has officially closed its doors, leaving behind nostalgia and a lot of heartbroken fans.
The final showing ended on a poetic note, though — Jim Henson’s daughter Heather was the last guest, watching the curtain fall on one of her father’s final masterpieces. But in the long-running show’s place? Well, there won’t be Muppets, but there will be Monsters.
Disney has confirmed that a Monsters, Inc.-themed land is now in development, replacing Muppet Courtyard and Grand Avenue entirely. The new area will reportedly feature beloved characters like Sulley and Mike Wazowski, plus a thrilling roller coaster designed around the iconic “suspended door” scene from the classic 2001 Disney/Pixar film.
Monsters, Inc. may not have quite the same legacy as the Muppets, but there’s no denying that it’s a more bankable brand. Kids today aren’t quoting Statler and Waldorf — they’re screaming “2319!” and hugging plush Sulleys and Mikes and Boos at bedtime.
In recent years, the Muppets have been trying to find relevance through TV reboots and seasonal Disney+ specials. However, Monsters, Inc. has quietly remained a staple in Disney and Pixar’s lineup, proving its worth with sequels, TV shows, and attractions.
Either way, there are undoubtedly Muppets fans out there who are excited about the Monsters, Inc. land. Although many guests were probably left feeling conflicted after the events of the weekend — and we aren’t talking about the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D.

Monsters, Inc. Lands Unleashes Its First Troll Ahead of Themed Land
YouTuber Disney Dan appeared at the Muppet farewell wearing a Randall mask. Randall, as Monsters, Inc. fans will already know, is the chameleon-like villain from the 2001 film.
While the prank was all done in jest, with Dan drawing both laughs and jeers from guests, the timing couldn’t have been worse as the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D marked a emotional moment for Muppets fans and Disney World guests alike.
Not quite done with his prank, Dan later joked on X that although some “boo’d” him for trolling the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, that they may as well have been cheering on the arrival of Monsters, Inc. land as “Boo” is the name of the little girl in the 2001 film.
But Muppets fans needn’t worry as they can look forward to their return in the 2026 re-theme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, although no opening date has been set. As for when Sulley and Mike’s new neighborhood will be ready — that’s also still under wraps.
