Walt Disney World Resort might be known for a variety of iconic attractions or roller coasters — as well as some more understated but all-the-more-spectacular offerings — but one of the most recognizable Disney World specialties is definitely nighttime spectaculars with fireworks!
Fireworks are not known for their safety, but sometimes these airborne forms of entertainment can actually be particularly dangerous for Disney’s Magic Kingdom Guests — and apparently, Disney is no stranger to this risk and the proper solutions!
The current nighttime spectacular in the Magic Kindom is Disney Enchantment (which is about to be replaced with the returning favorite, Happily Ever After), and the fireworks show takes place over Main Street U.S.A in front of Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom Park.
In a conversation on Reddit about the “weirdest” experiences that Disney World Guests have had, a Reddit user shared that their boyfriend “had an epilepsy attack in the middle of the fireworks show” — and they then detailed exactly how Disney Cast Members handled the medical situation!
“It was insane how organized they were about it, the Disney Guest reminisced. “Disney paid for all the medical stuff, the Uber from the hospital back to our car and welcomed us back to the Park the next day at no cost”.
In addition, Disney staff were apparently extremely considerate when it came to the couple’s privacy and the delicate situation. Even though the Reddit user confirmed that they “were right in the middle of the fireworks at magic kingdom,” Disney swiftly “had cast members blocking him off with a good amount of space within 3 minutes”.
“And not just 1-2 cast members”, the Disney Guest clarified. “like 10 cast members creating a human barricade to keep him out of everyone’s view. By the time the paramedics came, they had the entire Main Street cleared of people.”
Disney staff also helped keep the Reddit user’s boyfriend calm after his seizure was over when he “woke up…so confused”.
“You wake up real foggy after a seizure,” the Disney Guest explained. “I told him he was part of the parade to not get him scared in the moment and he was just waiving at the crowd while everyone cheered him on”.
“It was a horrible moment,” they admitted, “but Disney completely turned it around and allowed us to go back for free the next day so we could re-do my boyfriends first Disney experience.”
Have you ever witnessed or been part of a medical emergency on a Disney vacation? Did you realize before reading this article that anyone with epilepsy might be in danger during Disney’s iconic fireworks shows?
