The Walt Disney Company has been in the business of making movies for a long time now. In 1937 when Walt Disney thought up and took a risk on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and hit the jackpot, they experimented with many different kinds of films, including ones that were incredibly successful and ones that we would all rather forget happened.

Outlet Inverse recently wrote about one obscure Disney movie, The Cat from Outer Space, and per the outlet, this movie is the weirdest science fiction movie Disney has ever made, and they believe it will never be made again.

So what is this movie?

The Cat from Outer Space

As the outlet explains the premise of the film,

The movie follows Energy Research Laboratory scientist Dr. Frank Wilson (Ken Berry), who is studying a UFO taken into custody by U.S. officials. His unconventional theories get laughed at by his colleagues, but pique the interest of the UFO’s passenger, an “alien cat” named Zunar-J-5/9 Doric-4-7 that Frank decides to call Jake. Jake needs Frank’s help to return to his home planet, and the only thing that can help rebuild his ship is $120,000 worth of solid gold. So, of course, Frank sets about getting this gold by … gambling?

As Inverse describes, a good 45 minutes of the movie depicts its characters gambling. In addition, the film has one important selling point, a cute tabby with a special bejeweled collar that gives it super-intelligence and the power to levitate people.

As we said, weird.

Regarding why Disney wouldn’t make this movie again, one part of the answer is relatively straightforward: with the amount of gambling depicted in the show, it’s unlikely that Disney will ever make a movie that can mess with its carefully crafted brand.

When it comes to another possible reason why Disney would never make this movie again, well, simply put, the likelihood of it succeeding in the markets that Disney aims to hit targets is very low. And the Walt Disney Company is nothing if not conscious of its business investments; considering its current financial situation, it definitely wouldn’t take a risk on a promise like this.
