As the holidays approach, one Disney park is shaking things up by canceling its Christmas nighttime entertainment for nearly two weeks starting Thursday.
Whether it’s Easter or Valentine’s Day, Disney parks rarely miss an opportunity to make the most of a new season or holiday. As soon as the Halloween decorations come down, Christmas is very much the focus for every resort. from Anaheim to Shanghai.
Disneyland Paris is no exception. Last week, the resort got a headstart on the festivities with heavy snowfall across Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. As we get closer to Christmas, however, the park is doing the opposite of what you’d typically expect and pulling back from its festivities.
Disneyland Paris Cancels Show for 10 days
Disneyland Paris guests may be disappointed to learn that the park is cutting its signature festive nighttime show from December 5 to 14, 2024.
The Disney Electrical Sky Parade, a nightly drone show inspired by the Main Street Electrical Parade, typically features dazzling lights and projections above Sleeping Beauty Castle. For the 2024 holiday season, it was updated with Christmas magic, stepping in for the missing Disney Dreams of Christmas fireworks show, last seen in 2022.
However, between December 5 and December 14, this festive version of the parade won’t take place. Instead, a new limited-edition show, Disney loves Notre-Dame de Paris, will take center stage.
What is Disney loves Notre-Dame de Paris?
The show is a tribute to the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral, which almost fell to a devastating fire in 2019. After five years of extensive restoration, the church will officially reopen in early December. This special show draws inspiration from Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1996), set in the heart of Paris and based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel.
Though the cancellation of the holiday drone show might be a letdown for those visiting specifically for Christmas festivities—especially with early park closures announced for December 10, 12, 13, 17, and 19—there’s still plenty of holiday cheer to be found.
Disneyland Park will continue to dazzle guests with Mickey’s Dazzling Christmas Parade twice daily, while the Magical Christmas Tree Lighting and the “Let’s Sing Christmas!” musical show will be performed as usual. Both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park also feature winter markets, known as Les Chalets Gourmands.
