Disney is changing how one park ends the night this summer.
From California to Florida, nighttime spectaculars have evolved into must-see entertainment, blending projection mapping, pyrotechnics, and IP-driven storytelling. Each castle park now carries its own signature show, shaped by regional audiences and shifting creative priorities.

At Disneyland Park, the tradition dates back to Fantasy in the Sky, the original fireworks show that helped define the modern Disney experience. Today, Wondrous Journeys continues that legacy, sometimes running without fireworks depending on conditions.
Over at Magic Kingdom, Happily Ever After remains a fan-favorite, returning in 2023 after intense guest demand. Its reinstatement underscored just how central nighttime entertainment has become to Disneyās brand identity.
A New Summer Overlay Joins the Lineup
Further afield, Disneyās global parks each offer a different approach. Shanghai Disneyland presents Illuminate! A Nighttime Celebration, while Tokyo Disney Resort runs the more restrained Sky Full of Colors. (Notably, the latter typically goes on hiatus every summer.)

Meanwhile, Disneyland Paris recently adjusted Disney Tales of Magic, notably removing drones from the show. Each update reflects operational realities as much as creative direction.
Now, one castle park is preparing to add a new layer to its nighttime offering for the summer season.
As part of Pixar Summer Fest!, Hong Kong Disneyland will debut Pixar Pals Spectacular, a pre-show designed to run ahead of its existing nighttime production.
The new entertainment will feature characters from across Pixar Animation Studiosā portfolio, including The Incredibles, Inside Out, Turning Red, Monsters, Inc., and Toy Story. The show is scheduled to begin June 12 and run through August 31.

Pixar Pals Spectacular will lead directly into performances of Momentous: Party in the Night Sky, the parkās current flagship nighttime show, effectively expanding the evening entertainment block rather than replacing it.
Pixar Push Aligns With Broader Expansion
The launch ties into a wider push around Pixar Summer Fest!, which will also introduce Pixar Water Play Street Party!, themed merchandise, and meet-and-greet opportunities with what Disney describes as ārare and exclusive Pixar friends.ā

The timing aligns with the release of Toy Story 5 (2026), set to hit theaters June 19, as well as the 40th anniversary of Pixar Animation Studios. Disney has increasingly used seasonal overlays to sync park offerings with major film releases.
A longer-term Pixar expansion is also in development. The resort has confirmed plans for an āimmersive theatrical adventureā set to debut in 2027, though details remain limited.
The update arrives as Hong Kong Disneyland continues a broader transformation. Recent years have seen major investment across the resort, including the addition of World of Frozen and expanded Marvel-themed experiences.

Those changes appear to be paying off. The resort reported near-record revenue of HK$8,694 million for fiscal 2025, alongside a net profit of HK$536 million and attendance reaching 7.5 million.
Hotel occupancy also climbed to roughly 80%, signaling strong demand as the park positions itself as a key destination within Asiaās tourism market.
Looking ahead, further growth is expected through the expansion of the Stark Expo area, including a new Avengers attraction widely rumored to feature a drop-ride system similar to Tower of Terror.
