When Disney announced plans to permanently close both the Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort versions of the classic Splash Mountain ride, Disney Fanatics had some very strong reactions — and even Bruce Willis had something to say on the matter!

Move Over, Br’er Rabbit

Now that Splash Mountain has officially had its last run at both Disney World and Disneyland (witnessed by this renowned Imagineer, who had a personal stake in Splash Mountain’s closure), we are seeing Disney rapidly remove all evidence of the ride inspired by the notoriously-racist and problematic Disney movie Song of the South (1946).

Disney has already updated the ride’s structure to reflect what will soon be known as the icon representing Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is the replacement ride that will focus on New Orleans native Princess Tiana (who has really become the belle of the ball these days, with her own TV show in the works and a brand new look).

Now, we’re learning that Disney has just gone one step further in eradicating evidence of Splash Mountain’s existence!

The ride that represented Br’er Rabbit and his friends is officially gone — even though one straggler has somehow stuck around — but a statue portraying the Splash Mountain characters Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox, and Br’er Bear was stationed in the ride’s queue throughout its ‘life.’
Strangely enough, Disney did not entirely deconstruct the statue at this time — but Disney staff did remove the most famous Splash Mountain character, who had been on the statue with Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox! Now only Br’er Bear is visible.
“Brer Rabbit is now missing off the Brer statue!!” an upset Disney fan revealed in the Tweet shown below.

The disappearance of Br’er Rabbit from this statue will cause yet another small pang of emotional pain for hardcore Disney Fanatics who are missing the Magic Kingdom ride — but we can at least revel in the fact that there is, for now, one less theme park ride for Guests to very foolishly drink water from.
