A recent change at Walt Disney World Resort hotels has left some guests reporting allergic reactions severe enough to require emergency medical care. The discussion has sparked concern among Disney Parks fans, with many questioning whether a detergent or bedding update is to blame.
Allergic Reactions Spark Debate
Walt Disney World Resort offers more than 20 Value, Moderate, and Deluxe hotels, catering to families of all sizes and budgets. These resorts provide benefits like early theme park entry and advanced dining reservations. But for some guests, staying at these Disney Resort hotels has recently been anything but magical.
The conversation began on Reddit, where user u/stonygirl87 shared a troubling experience about their child’s severe allergic reaction during a recent trip.
“Does anyone know what detergent is used on the sheets and towels?” the guest asked. “We are wrapping up our trip and our poor kiddo ended up having a reaction on his skin. The worse parts are the areas not covered by pjs. We ended up at the urgent care Disney recommends… and kiddo had to get a steroid. Front desk couldn’t give us an answer on brand.”
The guest explained that their family had visited Walt Disney World Resort multiple times without issue, making the sudden reaction all the more puzzling.
“This has never happened before,” they said.
Other Disney Resort Guests Speak Out
The Reddit post quickly gained traction, with other Disney Parks fans sharing their experiences of allergic reactions during recent hotel stays.
“I haven’t seen anyone else talk about this!” wrote u/cluelessintelligence. “My last trip in mid December I had the worst allergies I’ve ever had in a hotel and I have stayed at Disney almost a dozen times in the last three years and never had an issue if I bring my own pillow.”
The commenter described symptoms such as a sore throat and itchy eyes that only occurred in their Disney Resort hotel room.
“Thankfully I didn’t have a skin reaction like your child….but it seems they have changed something up with laundry!!”
Another Disney Parks fan, u/xauronx, added, “My skin is sensitive to detergents as well and the couple of nights at Disney were itchy!”
A Mystery Cause
While many guests pointed fingers at a potential detergent change, others suggested other environmental factors could cause the reactions.
“Don’t get too focused on the detergent just because of the pajama thing,” warned u/agitatedcockroach862. “So many new experiences happen on trips and it could be any number of environmental factors including food.”
Walt Disney World Resort has not confirmed any changes to its bedding, detergents, or other laundry practices, leaving guests to speculate about the actual cause of these allergic reactions.
