Disney Springs Chefs Create Exclusive ‘Celebrate Soulfully’ Recipes

As the Celebrate Soulfully event continues in Walt Disney World Resort this February for Black History Month, the Disney Parks Blog has shared more glimpses into the workings behind the scenes of the event. Two Disney Springs Cast Members have just been featured on the blog for their contributions to the event — and since both Cast Members are chefs, their contributions are tasty!

Javier Soto, a Communications Manager for Walt Disney World Resort, said in the blog post that “we are excited to share what inspired two of our Disney Springs Cast Members to work in culinary and learn more about the special culinary creations they’ve made for our Guests”.

The first of the two Cast Members is Chef Assistant Kate Celestin, who works in D-Luxe Burger at Disney Springs. “I grew up in the kitchen and I watched my family creating things and coming together, creating memories in the kitchen, and I had to be a part of that”, Kate said in the blog post.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, “Kate recognizes her life would have been very different if not for the sacrifice her Jamaican-Italian grandfather made – leaving his family in Jamaica to immigrate to the United States to work toward a better life for them”.

Kate’s special contribution to the Celebrate Soulfully event in Disney World is the new Spicy Caribbean Jerk Burger, which is being featured during the event. The Spicy Caribbean Jerk Burger includes “two pressed signature blend patties with spicy jerk aioli, pineapple mango salsa, pepper jack cheese, plantain sticks, lettuce, tomato and grilled onions”.

The second featured Cast Member in the blog post is Chef Dee Swann, who has been helping her family in the kitchen since she was ten years old. Chef Dee Swann chose to pursue a career at Disney Springs (specifically at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar) because she “heard a lot of great things about Disney. I knew a couple of chefs here at Disney from the past and I said, ‘I’m going to do this’”, she recalled in the blog post.

The special food item that Chef Swann has created for Celebrate Soulfully is a recreation of her favorite sweet potato pie; this new version is called Ms. Dee’s Fried Sweet Potato Pie and consists of sweet potato-filled pastry complemented by “spiced cinnamon sugar, maple bourbon sauce and roasted pecan crumble”.

Chef Dee Swann also created the Chicken on the Egg, which is “buttermilk fried chicken, deviled eggs and hot honey sauce”! Are you going to sample these three special foods during Celebrate Soulfully?
