Disney World Maintenance Truck Plows Into Guests

One guest ended her Sunday at EPCOT with a jolt when a maintenance truck plowed into her car. Three car cameras captured the accident, showing that the Walt Disney World Resort cast member vehicle never stopped as it rolled into traffic.

Walt Disney World Resort is infamous for its extensive parking areas. The entirety of Disneyland Resort could fit into just the Transportation & Ticket Center lots, which doesn’t include the main EPCOT lot or parking for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney Springs, Disney water parks, or Disney Resort hotels. With such a large operation, parking at Walt Disney World Resort comes with a price tag. Standard car or motorcycle parking costs $30 per vehicle with the option to update to preferred parking for between $15 and $25 more (price depends on season). Oversized vehicles must park in a reserved lot for $35 daily. (Nearby Universal Orlando Resort charges near-identical fees.)

Luckily, Walt Disney World Resort revoked parking fees at Disney Resort hotels last year, making it complimentary for overnight guests. (Day Guests with Disney Dining reservations are allotted a few hours of free parking.) Disney Springs parking is free, but note that busses no longer transport guests from the shopping & dining district to the theme parks.

Given the expenses of staying at Walt Disney World Resort, an added parking fee frustrates many families. The premium upcharge gives some guests a sense of safety, feeling that their vehicle is safe in the monitored, controlled Disney parking lots.

Unfortunately, a car accident in the EPCOT parking lot on Sunday shattered one Walt Disney World guest’s magical experience. Jeff Putz posted on Coaster Buzz after a Disney maintenance cast member hit their family vehicle with a truck.

Putz’s wife, Diana, was leaving EPCOT when the accident happened. Luckily, no one was injured, but the cast member’s actions flabbergasted the guests.

“I can’t explain what he possibly could have been doing,” Putz wrote.

He also shared this compilation of three videos from their car’s cameras.

In one video, the maintenance truck is visibly moving through an empty parking lot while the guest drives straight, approaching a stop sign. The car shakes upon impact.

In the other angles, which capture the collision, it’s clear that the truck moved at a continuous speed without attempting to stop. It’s unclear why the Disney cast member wouldn’t stop and wait to cross the roadway until it was clear. Though it was rainy, Putz’s vehicle had the right of way.

Putz didn’t say how, if at all, Walt Disney World Resort responded to the accident. The guest didn’t share plans to request compensation from The Walt Disney Company. A personal injury claim wouldn’t apply, as Diana and her passengers weren’t hurt in the accident.

Last year, a similar incident amassed attention on social media. An unlicensed Disney cast member rear-ended a guest’s vehicle in the parking lot at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This accident was also caught on camera.

Notify the nearest cast member if you witness suspicious or unsafe behavior while visiting Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, or Disney Springs.
