A familiar Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction has finally returned after spending more than seven weeks unavailable to guests.
Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie reopened inside Mickey Shorts Theater on September 28, bringing another indoor entertainment option back to the park.
However, Disney missed the reopening date that had previously appeared on its operating calendar by one day.
Vacation Fun was originally expected to return September 27. When that day arrived, the attraction remained unavailable. Disney did not explain the change, leaving guests without a clear reason for why its reopening had been pushed back.
Thankfully, the wait did not last much longer.
Mickey Shorts Theater Is Open Again
Vacation Fun was back in operation the following morning on September 28.
Mickey Shorts Theater was scheduled to operate from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on its reopening day, officially ending an extended absence that began in early August.
The attraction had been closed since August 9.
However, this was not the type of closure where Disney spent nearly two months completely rebuilding an attraction. Mickey Shorts Theater was instead needed for an Annual Passholder offering.
Disney used the location to distribute a Kermit the Frog magnet as part of a period of Muppets-themed Annual Passholder perks at Hollywood Studios.
Those perks continued through September 24.
Once the event ended, Disney could return the space to its normal purpose and bring Vacation Fun back for regular park guests.
Disney Missed the Original Return Date
Disney’s operating calendar had pointed toward September 27 as the attraction's return.
That made the continued closure noticeable when September 27 arrived without Vacation Fun reopening.
Disney did not provide a reason for the additional day of downtime, and there is currently no indication that the attraction experienced a significant problem.
Instead, the delay ultimately lasted just one day.
Vacation Fun reopened September 28, meaning guests visiting Hollywood Studios once again have access to Mickey Shorts Theater.
For an attraction that had already been unavailable for more than seven weeks, an extra 24 hours was a relatively small extension. Still, it was an unexpected change for anyone following Disney's posted operating schedule.
Vacation Fun Adds Another Option to a Hollywood Studios Day
Vacation Fun may be easy to overlook next to some of Hollywood Studios' larger attractions, but the theater serves a different purpose.
Not every experience needs to involve a major ride system, a long line or an elaborate plan.
Sometimes families simply need somewhere to sit down.
Mickey Shorts Theater gives guests an indoor location where they can take a break from walking around the park while still experiencing an attraction. That can be particularly helpful for parents traveling with younger children or guests trying to escape Florida's heat for a while.
It also adds another option to a park day that can quickly become centered around major rides.
