Disney has once again found itself at the center of political speculation, this time for following Governor Ron DeSantis’s order to fly flags at full staff in honor of Donald Trump’s inauguration.
While complying with state directives is standard practice, it’s drawing attention given Disney’s history of being embroiled in political controversies.
The timing of this compliance coincides with the closure of The Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom. Traditionally, the attraction closes to make room for the newest president’s animatronic figure, but the current signage has raised eyebrows.
Previous iterations of the sign made it clear that the closure was for the addition of the new president. This year, however, the wording has changed, leading many to believe that Disney might be breaking from its long-standing tradition and possibly excluding Trump altogether.
If true, such a move could have far-reaching implications. Disney has previously faced backlash for perceived political leanings, and altering an attraction with a 50-year history could alienate a large portion of guests. The Hall of Presidents is seen by many as a celebration of the American presidency, regardless of political affiliation. Removing Trump could be viewed as a divisive act that contradicts the attraction’s original purpose.
Despite this speculation, others believe that Disney is simply trying to stay ahead of potential controversies. The company has faced mounting pressure in recent years to modernize its offerings and appeal to everyone. However, it has failed to do so in many ways, falling into backlash almost every step of the way.
Until an official announcement is made, the future of The Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom remains uncertain. Fans will be watching closely to see whether Disney sticks to tradition or opts for a more contemporary approach—either way, the decision is sure to spark debate among visitors and observers alike.
As an American, a Georgia resident and a Disney stockholder, I now have to reconsider my Disney vacation. This is horribly disrespectful to Jimmy Carter. Stop catering to this felon. Other Presidents have had the flags flown at half staff during their Inaugurations, including Jimmy Carter. I can’t express how disappointed I am in Disney. Shame!!!
