Hey, Disney fans! I know we’re all excited to hit the parks, but after Hurricane Helene tore through parts of Florida’s Big Bend, there’s a bit of buzz about another storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico.
Hurricane Helene made a major impact —it brought flooding, power outages, and some serious damage along the coast, as well as many other states. But thankfully, Central Florida, where Walt Disney World Resort is located, didn’t see much action from the storm.
The parks had a few minor interruptions, but everything pretty much stayed up and running, other than Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which closed for one evening.
Now, though, we’ve got another potential storm to keep an eye on. The National Hurricane Center has given this disturbance in the Gulf a 50% chance of developing into a tropical storm in the next few days. Some early models are suggesting it could head toward central Florida, which, of course, could mean rain, wind, and some temporary closures at Disney World.
If you’re planning to visit this week, it’s worth keeping an eye on the weather forecast just to be safe.
Disney, as always, has their weather protocols down. They’ll stay open during regular rainstorms or thunderstorms (because let’s be real, that’s just a typical Florida day). But if things start to look more serious, they could close some of the outdoor rides or even the entire park for the day.
That’s pretty rare, though. Even during big storms like Helene, Disney only closes when the weather poses a direct threat, and they always make sure to keep guests updated if anything changes.
For those of us planning to be there this week, we’ll want to stay flexible with our plans. It’s hard to say exactly what this storm will do since the models are still all over the place, but Disney’s pretty great about keeping everyone in the loop. If things take a turn, you can bet Disney will let us know through the My Disney Experience app and other official channels.
Hurricane season runs from June through November, so weather-related changes aren’t unusual this time of year. Disney’s got a solid track record of accommodating guests when the weather doesn’t cooperate. If a hurricane warning is issued within seven days of your visit, they’ll let you reschedule or cancel your plans without any fees, which is a huge relief for those of us who don’t want to take any chances.
While it’s still too early to know if this storm will turn into something big or even impact Disney World at all, the 50% chance of development is enough to put it on our radar. So, if you’ve got a trip planned, keep checking the forecasts, and don’t stress too much—Disney is prepared, and so should we be!
