A recent stay at a Walt Disney World Value Resort hotel turned into an unexpected battle against some unwelcome guests. During a January visit to Disney’s Pop Century Resort, a Disney Fanatic team member encountered a persistent issue in their room that raised concerns about the hotel’s housekeeping practices.
Unwanted Guests at a Disney World Hotel
Disney’s Pop Century Resort is a Value Resort known for its vibrant theming and budget-friendly accommodations. Located across Hourglass Lake from Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, it offers convenient transportation options, including buses and the Disney Skyliner, connecting guests to Walt Disney World Resort’s four theme parks and entertainment areas.
In an effort to modernize, Walt Disney World Resort updated Pop Century’s rooms in the late 2010s, replacing outdated carpeting with vinyl flooring and installing Murphy beds to maximize space. More recently, the resort refreshed its Everything Pop Shopping & Dining area, introducing new seating and decor to enhance the guest experience.
Despite these upgrades, some guests have noticed lapses in cleanliness. Following changes to Disney’s housekeeping services after the COVID-19 pandemic, standard room cleanings occur every other day. However, during a recent stay in the 70s section of Pop Century Resort, a Disney Fanatic team member discovered a troubling sight upon check-in—several dead flies stuck to the bathroom ceiling.
A Stubborn Problem
According to our reporter, the flies were impossible to remove due to the bathroom’s humidity, which caused them to adhere to the ceiling. Despite multiple attempts, the pests remained visible for the duration of the stay.
Walt Disney World Resort encourages Disney Resort hotel guests to report cleanliness concerns to the Front Desk for assistance.

We stayed at Pop Century. We first got to our room at midnight. We were exhausted! Pulled down the Murphy be only to have a 3 inch ‘Palmetto Bug’ run across the bed. Sorry but if you look them up, they are classified as ROACHES!!! The hotel had no vacancies so for 3 days we ‘shared’ our room. Was finally comped for 1 night.
We stayed at All Star Music last fall, never stayed at that resort before, probably never will again..upon check-in there was black hair stuck to the shower walls and dust and trash under the bed like they never really cleaned the room in some time. Very disgusting. They cleaned the room the next day. Things have gone way down hill since Covid, and I hate that all these changes are still blamed on Covid, it’s over, can we please have the great Disney experience that once was? Less services and higher prices. The parks are dirty, guests unruly. Do better Disney!
