On March 1, 2022, Disney opened its most ambitious experience yet — the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort. The Galactic Starcruiser would fully immerse guests in the Star Wars universe with a 2-day stay aboard the Halcyon (the name of the ship). The only time that guests would leave the ship was when a transport vehicle brought them to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
From the outset, the Galactic Starcruiser had its problems. Which lay mainly with its extremely high price tag. For just two people to stay on the Starcruiser cost nearly $5,000. Now, Star Wars fans are a dedicated bunch, but not many people can afford a 2-day, $5,000 experience more than once.
Disney bet big on the Galactic Starcruiser, and they lost big. Just one year after its launch, Disney announced that the flailing experience would be closing. The Galactic Starcruiser took its last voyage in late September.

Now, clearly there is a market for Star Wars, just look at the popularity of Galaxy’s Edge. But Disney World didn’t need the Galactic Starcruiser.
What it needs is a deluxe Star Wars hotel.
I understand that a Walt Disney World vacation is not inexpensive. And you may be thinking, “Disney doesn’t need another Deluxe hotel,” but hear me out.
A deluxe Star Wars hotel could be full of some of the same things that the Starcruiser had — things like the Hyperspace Lounge and lightsaber lessons. There could also be meet and greets with some of your favorite Star Wars characters, like Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, and Chewbacca.

Disney also already has a lot of pieces from the Galactic Starcruiser that they could use in a new Star Wars hotel. Of course, they would have to order more beds, pillows, towels, etc., but they already have the designs and everything ready, so they wouldn’t have to create new designs from scratch. Create rooms similar to the ones on the Galactic Starcruiser, just on a larger scale (and with windows).
When it comes to food, how popular would a Star Wars character dining experience be?! Guests who boarded the Halcyon had great things to say about the food they were served. So, a new Star Wars hotel could bring the most popular dishes from the Starcruiser to a new character dining and quick service restaurant. Add in some American favorites for the less adventurous, and you would have a winner on your hands!
Even though the Galactic Starcruiser struggled to bring guests in, the guests who did shell out the $5k absolutely loved it. In fact, the Galactic Starcruiser had the highest approval ratings of any Disney experience in history. So, Disney needs to consider bringing the same kind of ingenuity to a new deluxe hotel. Guests have shown that they are willing to splurge for something they think is worth it. That’s why the Deluxe Resort hotels remain some of the most popular hotels on property.
