Disney World Removes Iconic Spaceship From Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Batuu just got a little harder to navigate, as one of the first things guests see when they step into the galaxy far, far away is now hidden behind plywood. Here's the latest update on maintenance in the Star Wars land at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Guests entering Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios from Grand Avenue on March 23 were greeted by an unexpected sight: construction walls surrounding the area that houses one of the land's most recognizable prop pieces, the A-Wing resistance ship. The barriers went up without any advance notice from Walt Disney World Resort, and the ship is now barely visible when peeking around the plywood from certain angles. WDWNT shared this photo on Facebook:

The A-Wing sits directly across from Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, making it one of the most prominent decorative elements in that section of the land. Its sudden disappearance behind construction walls is hard to miss. However, the attraction and its queue are unaffected by the barriers.

Walt Disney World Resort has not offered any explanation for the project, nor confirmed whether the A-Wing prop will be altered, repaired, or simply maintained in place behind the walls.

The A-Wing closure is the latest in a string of maintenance projects currently active throughout Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios. Earlier this month, Disney Fanatic reported that scaffolding had appeared around part of the Millennium Falcon structure outside Smugglers Run — another unannounced project that Disney has yet to comment on publicly. The likely explanation there is cosmetic maintenance ahead of a significant moment for the attraction: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is set to debut a brand-new storyline inspired by The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026) later this year.

Beyond construction activity, broader changes are underway in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge on both coasts. Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort are both implementing a timeline expansion that will split the land between the existing sequel-era setting and the original trilogy, opening the door for characters like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa to appear in the land for the first time.
