As Hurricane Ian grows to a Category 2 storm, boasting winds over 100 mph and threatening Central Florida with Tropical Storm conditions, the Walt Disney World Resort has released some operational changes due to the impending weather.
As shared over Twitter by Scott Gustin, it appears that Walt Disney World will be closing several Resort and Theme Park experiences.
Typhoon Lagoon will be closed Wednesday, September 28, and Thursday, September 29, as well as Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Courses and Winter Summerland Minature Golf.
As far as Resort experiences, the following will be closed from Wednesday, September 28 through Friday, September 30:
- Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
- Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
- Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.
- The Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
Walt Disney World released a list of changes due to Hurricane Ian, including impacts on some resort hotels, Typhoon Lagoon, miniature golf and other specialty experiences.

Walt Disney World Resort appears to have also announced that “effective immediately, we will not enforce cancelation policies until further notice for dining and other experiences like Savi’s Workshop and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.”
At this time, all four Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks are still expected to open this week.
It should be noted that it is unclear what “experiences” are covered under Disney World’s new reservation cancelation forgiveness policy, including hotel reservations beyond the ones specifically shared here. We at Disney Fanatic suggest that all would-be Guests (or would’ve-been Guests) please check with Disney World customer support or your authorized Disney Vacation Planner for more specific details.
While tropical storm conditions can be intimidating, it cannot be overstated that a Disney World Resort Hotel is one of the safest places to be when one has to shelter in place for a hurricane.
We at Disney Fanatic will continue to update our readers on Hurricane Ian and how it will affect Disney World as more developments come to light.
