Disney World Turns Guests Away From Park, Sends Them Elsewhere

At Walt Disney World Resort, summer is rarely quiet and this year is no exception. As temperatures rise and excitement builds, guests are experiencing a season full of updates, celebrations, and evolving park operations.

One of the season’s brightest moments arrived on July 20, when Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away made its official debut at Magic Kingdom Park. The vibrant nighttime parade traveled down Main Street, U.S.A., charming visitors with beloved characters from classics like Peter Pan and Frozen. The highly anticipated debut followed two nights of previews and was so well attended that Annual Passholders found themselves temporarily blocked from entering the park, part of a recent operational shift.

While Magic Kingdom glittered with new entertainment, elsewhere in the resort, capacity was the word of the weekend. Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park hit its maximum limit, prompting cast members to direct guests to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon instead. The exact reason for the closure wasn’t specified, but it may have been impacted by a popular seasonal offer: complimentary water park access for guests on their check-in day.

This summer also marks the first time since 2019 that all six Disney World parks—four theme parks and two water parks–have operated simultaneously. However, that milestone will soon shift again.

Disney has confirmed that on September 7, 2025, Blizzard Beach will close once more, likely for its annual seasonal refurbishment. This move will bring the resort back to operating just one water park, similar to previous years. With demand for Blizzard Beach still strong—especially during the warmer months—the closure raises important questions about how crowds and operations will adjust.

Given Blizzard Beach’s snowy theming and its popularity in Florida’s tropical climate, guests may miss the unique experience it offers during the cooler seasons. Whether its closure will affect overall guest satisfaction or resort-wide attendance remains to be seen.

What’s clear is that Walt Disney World continues to balance magical additions with thoughtful operational planning, even as it prepares for seasonal shifts ahead.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
