Planning a Disney World trip usually comes with excitement baked in. Picking a hotel is part of the fun. You imagine where you’ll relax, how easy transportation will be, and whether the stay itself will feel special.
That’s why Disney’s Contemporary Resort often jumps to the top of the list.

It’s close to Magic Kingdom. The monorail runs straight through it. You can end the night with fireworks and be back in your room minutes later. On paper, it’s hard to beat.
But for trips happening over the next couple of years, more guests are quietly pressing pause.
The reason isn’t the location or the design. It’s timing.
The Contemporary is currently undergoing a refurbishment that has been extended multiple times and is now expected to continue through late 2027. Construction began back in 2024, focusing largely on Bay Lake Tower and shared resort spaces. While Disney is handling the work in phases, guests should expect to see and hear construction during their stay.
That changes the experience in subtle but meaningful ways.
Noise during the day can affect rest days. Construction walls can block views or alter walking paths. Certain amenities—especially at Bay Lake Tower—are scheduled for temporary closures at different points, including pool and lounge areas. Other pools will remain open, but that doesn’t always soften the disappointment when plans change.

For a deluxe resort, these details matter.
The Contemporary commands a premium price, and with that price comes high expectations. Guests aren’t just paying for proximity—they’re paying for a seamless, calm, and fully operational environment. When parts of the resort feel unfinished, that value equation starts to shift.
That’s why many experienced Disney travelers are recommending patience.
Instead of booking now and hoping for the best, they’re waiting until the refurbishment is completely finished. The logic is simple: once construction ends, guests are far more likely to get the full Contemporary experience without distractions.

In the meantime, some guests are choosing other monorail resorts, while others are staying at different Disney hotels and redirecting their budget toward dining, Lightning Lane access, or future vacations.
This doesn’t mean the Contemporary is a bad choice forever. In fact, once the refurbishment wraps up, it could easily become one of Disney World’s strongest hotel options again.
Right now, though, it’s a resort in transition—and many guests are deciding to experience it later, when everything is finally in place.
