Disneyland Resort has officially breathed new life into a beloved wooden statue of Mickey Mouse, giving it a much-needed restoration at Disney California Adventure Park. The facelift has sparked excitement among Disney Parks guests and online communities.
A Beloved Piece of Disney History
The carved wooden Mickey Mouse statue is located near a Disney Vacation Club kiosk at Disney California Adventure Park. Over time, the statue had become worn, with visible signs of damage.
Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort have faced scrutiny in recent years over maintenance issues across their properties. Guests have reported concerns ranging from ride breakdowns to chipped paint and deteriorating features throughout the parks and resorts. However, the restoration of this Mickey Mouse statue signals the Southern California Disney Park’s commitment to preserving its themed elements.
The Restoration Process for Mickey Mouse
Raymond Kinman, an expert woodcarver, took to Reddit under the username u/raymond_klnman to share details about the restoration. He revealed his involvement in repairing and restoring the iconic statue.
Mickey Gets a New Life
“Whenever a new carving shows up my inbox blows up, they want to know if this is my work,” Kinman wrote. “I can neither confirm nor deny. But I’ve heard rumors that this carved Cedar Mickey statue had to go to the hospital after some damage sustained at California Adventure Park. He was recently restored with some new luggage and is now back in place in his full glory!”
The post, accompanied by a photo of the restored statue, delighted Disney Parks fans, who praised Kinman’s craftsmanship.
“Good on you,” wrote Redditor u/phicks_law. “Looks great. Love the work!”
“Love your work Raymond!” added u/kebe_krowe.
Disney’s Ongoing Maintenance Efforts
This restoration is part of a broader initiative to address wear and tear across Disney properties. Recent examples include the restoration of a Baloo statue at Walt Disney World Resort’s Pop Century Resort and a year-long refurbishment of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom Park.
