Disneyland Security Calls Police on Guests Carrying Legal Medication

A family’s Disneyland Resort vacation turned confrontational when security called police over two sleeping pills carried in a small baggie, despite the guests offering to discard the legal medication immediately.

Reddit user u/wanderingraccoon85 recounted the incident earlier this month. Their wife carried two sleeping pills in a baggie to save space instead of bringing the large bottle. When security found the medication and asked about it, the situation escalated unexpectedly.

“My wife explained to them what the pills were for and said that since it’s not clear, they can just throw them away,” the Disney Park guest wrote.

Security refused to simply dispose of the pills:

“What they did was call the police. The police asked a few questions and just suggested throwing it away.”

The couple eventually entered Disneyland Resort, but the security encounter ruined their experience.

“I understand the security concerns,” the Redditor wrote. “I understand that there are many people trying to bring drugs through, but, man, you’re an amusement park. If you can prevent a violation, do it, but what’s the point of escalating it? Where is the trust in your guests and common sense? I mean, even at the airport, where security is about people’s lives, it’s not like this. After that, all those ‘hello friend’ things were so fake.”

Disneyland Resort’s Medication Rules

Disneyland Resort doesn’t prohibit bringing prescription or over-the-counter medication into the theme parks, hotels, or Downtown Disney. Only illegal substances and cannabis (including medical use) are banned.

Disneyland Resort’s official rules don’t require guests to label medication or bring original containers. A March 14, 2026, planDisney post confirmed this:

“We often travel with little ones, who require a lot of packed extras, including medicine. We typically keep their medications, including prescription medications, in a travel pill dispenser. It’s never been an issue for us going through security. There’s nothing currently in the park rules about bringing medication into the parks in its original container. However, park rules are subject to change, and it’s always up to the cast member working to decide at their discretion what can and cannot safely enter the parks.”

Inconsistent Enforcement

Other Reddit users shared mixed experiences bringing medication into Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

“DL security is so inconsistent, I swear they just decide on things depending on their mood,” u/NoContribution9879 wrote. “I have had a little pill case in my purse every single time I have ever been to Disneyland, and have never once had anyone even ask about it. It’s literally a little plastic container in the shape of a pill, lol. I really hate that they can’t establish real guidelines for this stuff.”

I’m there all the time and I literally have loose pills in the front part of a bag that they’ve seen dozens of times and never asked about,” said u/phenomenology79. “Although this past weekend there were a couple of security guards that seemed like they were giving people a hard time but I couldn’t see why.”

Additional Complaints

Other guests described negative encounters with Disneyland Resort security cast members.

“I’m still salty about how security handled our search on the day I got engaged,” u/Kindly_Conflict4659 commented. “We decided we both wanted to propose on the same day just how was gonna be a surprise. The guard found both ring boxes and like took them both out and made us very deliberately open both of them in full view of the other. Like went out of his way to do so. It wasn’t a secret for us but for most others that would have really soured the memory.”

“I feel violated by the security checkpoint every time I go through it. The people checking the bags are often rude, invasive and treat you like a suspect. I’ve had many encounters where a simple case for my glasses leads to 20 questions. It makes me not want to go to the park knowing my first engagement of the day is being searched like an incoming prisoner.”

Disneyland Resort hasn’t publicly responded to the Reddit thread’s accusations.
