Disneyland Resort has seen a surprising shift in its crowd levels this summer, with some guests claiming that the theme park feels emptier than ever. While Disneyland celebrated its 70th anniversary on July 17 with wall-to-wall crowds, the rest of the summer has reportedly fallen short compared to previous years. Despite the usual hustle and bustle, some visitors feel that a negative energy is permeating the park due to ICE activity in Southern California.
It all began earlier this summer, when rumors about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents allegedly being seen in Disneyland Resort parking garages and near cast member entrances began circulating. This was during a time of heightened protests regarding ICE’s controversial actions, which fueled even more anxiety among Disney Park guests. Within hours, Disneyland Resort issued a formal statement confirming that ICE was never present on the property and that operations continued as usual. However, the damage had already been done: the rumors lingered, and some Disney Parks fans seemed hesitant to return.

The ripple effect of the ICE rumors appears to have left a mark on Disneyland Resort’s summer crowds. Some visitors have reported canceling their planned vacations, and many Magic Key holders in the area are opting to skip their usual visits. As one Disney Parks fan put it, it “doesn’t feel right” to visit The Happiest Place on Earth while families are suffering nearby.
TikTok user @1vjpn posted a video on July 20 showing various empty spots around Disney California Adventure Park, calling the lack of crowds the “ICE effect.”

Another TikTok user, @pinoystarbbq, shared footage from Disneyland Park on July 23, writing:
“Entrance is empty…Castle is empty!! Trams are completely empty!!! We love Disneyland but ICE has everyone in a bundle!! …Breaks my heart that it’s been this slow!! In just the matter of weeks!!”

When @pinoystarbbq asked a Disney cast member if it was a slow day, the response was telling: “A little bit, yeah,” the cast member said.
Several Disney Parks fans agreed that Disneyland Resort is less busy this summer.

“Yup. Very sad this administration has done!” @mommachingona commented. “Not spending big on this administration.”
“AP’s are blocked and international tourists are cancelling their US vacations for various reasons related to our current administration,” @kiki.says.hi agreed.
Not everyone agrees with this assessment, though. Other social media users insisted that the Southern California Disney parks have been as busy as ever.

“It’s never slow when I go!” said @sassyluv.1. Big crowds and long line wait times.”
“Funny. I’m here and the place is packed,” @str8pipes replied. “Haven’t seen lines this long in years.”
While there’s no concrete data to confirm whether the parks are truly emptier this summer, Disneyland Resort is attempting to entice visitors with a $70 ticket offer for Anaheim residents.
