Disneyland Resort guests arrived this week to find unexpected disruptions at the Southern California Disney park’s entrance, as construction walls blocked multiple entry points. These changes are part of a long-term upgrade ahead of the resort’s 70th-anniversary celebration.
Major Changes in Progress for Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary
Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and Downtown Disney are all preparing for the upcoming Disneyland70 festivities, set to launch on May 16. The celebration will introduce new entertainment offerings, including “The Celebrate Happy Cavalcade,” “World of Color Happiness!”, and the “Tapestry of Happiness” projection show on “it’s a small world.”
Attractions are also being refreshed for the event. “it’s a small world” will welcome new Coco (2017) characters, while Toy Story Midway Mania! at Disney California Adventure Park will receive an anniversary-themed update.
Alongside these enhancements, Disneyland Resort has been making structural modifications to improve guest access, including the installation of MagicBand+ compatible “tapstiles” at the park’s entrances. While these upgrades are designed to streamline park entry in the long run, the current phased construction is causing unexpected headaches for visitors.
Entrance Disruptions at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park
Disneyland Resort first introduced tapstiles in December, rolling out the changes in phases to minimize bottlenecks. According to WDWNT, crews have completed two out of four sections and recently blocked a third with construction walls. Similar modifications are also taking place at Disney California Adventure Park.
Further complicating the situation, construction walls have gone up around Disneyland Park’s signature flower bed, which currently features a Minnie Mouse design in honor of Women’s History Month. Whether this project is connected to the entrance refurbishments or part of an unrelated maintenance effort remains unclear.
No Official Completion Date Announced
Disneyland Resort has yet to confirm when the entrance upgrades will be completed, but work is expected to finish in time for Disneyland 70. In the meantime, guests should anticipate potential delays and adjust entry procedures when visiting Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.
