Snow White Grotto and its wishing well have been part of Disneyland Park since it first welcomed guests on July 17, 1955. Over the years, thousands of visitors have tossed coins into the well, making wishes and contributing to charitable causes like the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Give Kids the World. The peaceful spot near Sleeping Beauty Castle has always been a prime destination for romantic proposals and dreamy photo opportunities.

Unfortunately, anyone hoping to pop the question on Valentine’s Day was in for a rude awakening. Instead of the serene, storybook setting they had planned on, guests were met with an abrupt and unexpected refurbishment. Disneyland Park removed the well’s signature roof without prior notice, leaving fans disappointed. Instagram user @mandalodien took to social media to share a video of the scene, writing:

“Well if you were looking forward to taking VDay or GDay pics, sorry 😭”

The video quickly gained traction online as fans questioned why the attraction had been left in this state.

Could an Infamous Incident Be to Blame?

The sudden refurbishment comes months after a viral mishap that shook the Disney social media community. In a now-deleted video, Instagram influencer @brightyoungleerah fell into the Snow White Grotto wishing well while filming content for her page. Though the video was quickly removed, the influencer later confirmed the accident had taken place.

It remains unclear whether this incident influenced the decision to dismantle the well, though it seems unlikely.

Disneyland Resort has yet to announce when—or if—the Snow White Grotto wishing well will return to its former glory. With Disneyland Park’s 70th anniversary celebration set to kick off on May 16, 2025, speculation is growing that the refurbishment may be tied to the upcoming milestone. The Southern California theme park previously promised new enhancements to Sleeping Beauty Castle as part of the celebration, leading some to wonder if the well’s transformation is part of a larger effort.

Until then, fans can only hope that the historic wishing well, which has stood the test of time for nearly 70 years, will be restored to its former fairytale splendor.
