If you haven’t already seen the trailer for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto”, the upcoming animated musical is meant to “transport audiences from around the world into Casa Madrigal to experience the vibrant magic and sounds of Colombian culture”. Judging by the teaser trailer, it looks like the movie will be one full of color, adventure, humor, and heart (plus we might have already spoiled the ending)–and now Disney has announced that the movie is already getting a “specially-designed collection”. Colombian artists are the designers behind the products (and the collection’s release is aptly timed, since it’s Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month); Carla Pereira, a marketing director for Disney Parks, Experiences and Products in Latin America, apparently “played a pivotal role in bringing the “Encanto” collection to life”. “For me, what makes this collection so special is that it shares Colombian art with the rest of the world, so they can experience it,” Carla said. “Having something that is truly original and grounded in the art and the culture of our region is so special to me. Knowing that our fans around the world will get to experience this little piece of our rich culture is incredibly meaningful”.

The four artists involved in designing the collection are Catalina Estrada, Sebas Pakui, Diana Ordonez (Ledania) and Johnny Nuñez! These artists were encouraged “to share the parts of the film that inspired them most, while encouraging them to showcase their own experiences, unique styles and love for Colombia through their designs”. Take a look at the beautiful results below!

Carla spoke at length on the Disney Parks Blog about the significance of this particular collection.“There is such an emotional connection between what the artists saw in ‘Encanto’ and how they brought that to life through their different art styles. I felt like I, as a Brazilian, had been transported to Colombia when I saw the art for the first time, which shows how Latin Americans are all so different, but we still have so many commonalities,” she explained. “From family relationships, to how the colors flow through our daily lives – I really love to see those connections come out.”

Carla Pereira has not just been instrumental in the development of this “Encanto” collection; she also “leads efforts to help bring more inclusive products to market, such as the recently-launched hair care line for curly and textured hair in Brazil”. Check out the video below to learn more about the four designers that she worked with to create the “Encanto” designs!

Disney fans and “Encanto” fans can find this collection “exclusively at Target stores and on Target.com in the U.S.”; it will come to Colombia in the near future.
