There are so few genuinely good people left that we must treasure each and every one of them. And country music legend Dolly Parton is one of those people. She chose to take time out of her day to fulfill a dying fan’s bucket list and, if only for a minute, make him forget about the world around him.
Utah man LeGrand Gold has been battling cancer for the past two years. Gold, who goes by L.G., was recently told that the treatment was no longer having an effect and was sent home. L.G. decided to write out his bucket list of items he wanted to accomplish, and one of those items was to meet the legendary Dolly Parton.
Dolly Parton fulfilled a dying man’s wish by serenading him over the phone. ❤️

Just before Christmas, Parton heard of L.G.’s list and decided to give him a call. Parton said in the call:
I really do thank you for shooting out the word that you’d like to talk to me. I’m just happy that we got to kind of have our journey together in this lifetime. I always want to make people happy with my music and with the things I do and the things I say, and I’m just happy to know that I’ve touched your life in some way.
LeGrand Gold told Dolly Parton about his cancer and that doctors had sent him home to be with his family. L.G.’s wife, Alice, told Dolly what a fan the entire family was of her music and Dollywood Theme Park and thanked her for the call. But that wouldn’t be the end of it.
Dolly Parton ended the call by serenading L.G. to her song, “I Will Always Love You,” adding his name to the end of the famous chorus. Parton ended her call with L.G. by wishing him and his entire family a Merry Christmas.

In her lifetime, the country music legend has given away millions of dollars to help poor students in her home, Sevier County, Tennessee, and she has given away millions of books through the Dollywood Foundation. Through her foundation, she helped lower the dropout rate from 35 percent to six, a fantastic accomplishment for anyone.
Dolly Parton has also raised millions after wildfires and floods devastated East Tennessee. And she even set up a bald eagle sanctuary near Dollywood to help the endangered symbol of America. If that were everything she had done, Dolly Parton would have more than solidified herself as a National Treasure. But wait, there’s more.
In 2017, Parton donated $1 million to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in honor of her niece, who was treated for leukemia at that hospital. She followed that up with a $1 million donation to coronavirus research at Vanderbilt University, which helped fund Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine. She followed that up with a third $1 million donation to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville in June 2022, this time aimed at helping pediatric infectious disease research.
Once again, Dolly Parton fulfills a man’s last wish with a simple phone call, proving that she is one of the great Americans. Best wishes to Legrand Gold and his entire family.
