Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, a beloved and historic Disneyland Park attraction, has undergone unexpected changes, sparking conversation among Disney Parks fans. Guests visiting Disneyland Resort this week noticed unannounced updates to the exterior of the 61-year-old attraction.
A Disney Classic
The Enchanted Tiki Room has entertained guests since it first opened in 1963. As the first Disney Park attraction to feature Audio-Animatronics, it was a groundbreaking achievement for Walt Disney and his Imagineering team. Its combination of catchy tunes, tropical ambiance, and quirky avian characters has made it a timeless favorite.
The attraction’s sister version, originally called Tropical Serenade, opened at Magic Kingdom Park in 1971. While that version underwent significant changes in the 1990s and again in 2011, including a controversial update called The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management), Disneyland Park’s original Tiki Room has remained largely untouched, preserving its nostalgic charm.
Fans Spot Enchanted Tiki Room Construction
This week, keen-eyed Disney Park guests noticed construction on the roof of the Enchanted Tiki Room. Reddit user u/burbankbagel shared photos of the updates, which showed unexpected additions to the exterior of the building. “Any idea what’s happening here?” the Disneyland guest asked. “Are they reskinning it?”

The sight left some Disney Parks fans speculating about what the changes could mean. Many pointed out that the Enchanted Tiki Room shares its building with Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe, which is currently undergoing refurbishment. “It shares the building/roof with Jolly Holiday, so it’s part of Jolly Holiday’s construction,” u/JoeeyMKT explained.
“When in doubt, OSHA,” u/duck_mancer replied. “I’m not a contractor, but I’d guess they needed some sort of ‘guard rail’ or something that wasn’t just a plain 2×4 and that’s the best thing they had on hand.”
Despite the speculation, it’s not yet clear if the construction is directly related to the Tiki Room or limited to its shared structure with Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe.
