There’s no telling what lengths Disney fans would go to score a free Disney trip. While the economy flounders in the wake of COVID-19, times are tough for many Americans, and a Disney Vacation isn’t the cheapest trip you can take.
Staying on Disney property at a Disney Resort exponentially improves the Disney Park experience, with access to extra Park hours, Disney’s Boardwalk, and Disney Springs allowing for crucial breaks and naps throughout the action-packed Disney adventure. That said, Disney Resorts tend to be pricey, discouraging Guests from springing for the added accommodations.
One way to circumvent the costly nature of a Disney vacation is to utilize airline miles and hotel points to book it, which is precisely what a Redditor did for their sister-in-law. In a popular subreddit called r/AITA (short for “Am I “he A**hole”), a Redditor turned to the general internet public to discuss a gifted Disney vacation that devolved into a screaming match between families.

A Sweet Gift Turned Sour
In today’s world, a free Disney trip is almost unheard of, but u/Safe_Ad_6111 was in a position to offer one to their sister-in-law. Instead of gratitude, the Redditor was met with screaming—so they sourced opinions to determine whether or not her reaction was warranted.
AITA for not giving my sister in law and her family a luxury vacation.

“I travel a lot for work, so I have so many hotel and airline points it is crazy,” began u/Safe_Ad_6111. “This summer, I am taking my family to Disney World. We are going to stay at one of the resorts on the property.”
The original poster planned to stay at the Grand Floridian and decided to pay some extra points forward to their sister-in-law and family who have personal finance struggles, continuing:
My sister-in-law and her family had a hard time during the pandemic, so I decided to do something nice and invite them along. My treat. I said I would pay for their flights, hotel, and park tickets.
While the situation started with excitement, it took a drastic turn when the hotel reservations came into question:
Everyone was excited until she started talking to my wife. Now she is upset that we are staying at one of the resorts and they have to stay in Disney Springs. Apparently I’m being cheap by using points for their hotel instead of just paying for them to stay at the same resort as us.
The Redditor’s wife told the family to “shut up” and “accept the gift,” but they refused. Here’s where the disagreement boiled over:
So I finally talked to them and gave the the choice of accepting my gift or not coming since I could still cancel their reservations. They started yelling at me for being an asshole and taking something away from their children. I had talked to them like adults but when they started screaming their kids heard them and found out that they might not be going. Now their kids are pissed at their parents for possibly fucking up their vacation. And I’m the bigger asshole for making them look bad in front of their kids. AITA?
In true Reddit fashion, comments flocked to the post, and the Redditors seemed to give this scenario a unanimous rating of NTA (Not The A**hole).
The top comment from u/Empty_Comfort_4513, with 18,000 likes, summed up the prevailing sentiment:
Let me get this straight… You’re gifting them airline tickets, park tickets AND a nice hotel and they demand more? Cancel their tickets. Immediately. For their benefit too so they drop this entitled idiocy forever.

Another Redditor, u/JezebelJade1, made a stern suggestion:
Just take the kids. F*ck those entitled parents.
Most of the opinions in the thread attributed the messy situation to how the parents communicated about the hotel with their children. Either way, it would be tough to find a die-hard Disney fan who wouldn’t accept a free trip as a gift, regardless of the Resort.
