Legal documents show that Antony Billinghurst, a tourist from the United Kingdom, died “on or about August 31, 2024,” during a visit to SeaWorld Orlando. The incident occurred while Billinghurst was vacationing at the marine-themed park. On March 16, 2026, his wife, Rachel Billinghurst, formally filed a wrongful death lawsuit against SeaWorld of Florida, LLC. She is representing both his estate and the couple’s two young daughters.

In the complaint, the family alleges that the park did not meet its responsibility to maintain a safe environment for guests. The filing claims that failures tied to park operations and upkeep ultimately resulted in Billinghurst’s death. However, the lawsuit does not go into detail about exactly what happened on the day of the incident, leaving the circumstances surrounding the tragedy unclear for now.

SeaWorld Orlando remains a major player in Central Florida tourism, positioned close to other high-profile destinations such as Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort. The park has spent years evolving its identity, incorporating more thrill rides and emphasizing conservation efforts alongside its traditional marine life experiences.

As with all Florida theme parks, SeaWorld is required to adhere to strict safety standards. This includes maintaining facilities, ensuring employees are properly trained, and providing adequate warnings about potential risks guests may encounter.

The lawsuit argues that SeaWorld did not fulfill those obligations. It claims that this alleged negligence directly contributed to Billinghurst’s death. Beyond the incident itself, the filing highlights the impact on his family, citing both emotional and financial hardship. His wife and children are seeking damages related to the loss of companionship and support, along with compensation for mental pain and suffering. Additional claims include lost income as well as medical and funeral expenses.

While incidents of this nature are uncommon in the theme park industry, they tend to draw considerable attention when they occur—especially in a destination like Orlando, where millions of visitors travel each year. Even a single case can spark broader conversations about safety procedures across the industry.

At this point, the lawsuit reflects only the claims made by the Billinghurst family. The allegations have not yet been tested in court, and the filing does not include a response from SeaWorld. As the legal process continues, further developments could shed more light on what happened.

For now, the case serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with operating large-scale attractions in one of the busiest tourist regions in the world. As proceedings move forward, the outcome may influence ongoing discussions about safety, accountability, and oversight in theme parks.

We will continue to update on this active lawsuit.
