Failure Reported on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Attraction at Magic Kingdom

A slow stretch in the queue at Tiana's Bayou Adventure turned into an unexpected discovery for one sharp-eyed Magic Kingdom Park guest. It sparked a debate among Disney Parks fans about whether Walt Disney Imagineers made a storytelling mistake.

The Ride and Its Backstory

Tiana's Bayou Adventure opened at both Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland Park in 2024, replacing the original Splash Mountain attractions and swapping out the controversial, now-banned Song of the South (1946) theme for The Princess and the Frog (2009).

The reimagined log flume ride picks up after the events of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film, reuniting guests with Princess Tiana (Anika Noni-Rose), Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), Louis (Michael-Leon Wooley), and Mama Odie (Jenifer Lewis) as they pull together a band of musicians for a bayou celebration. In the ride's expanded storyline, Tiana has grown her dreams beyond her restaurant into an entire co-op called Tiana's Foods.

The Contradiction in the Queue

Earlier this year, a Reddit user going by u/EnriqueLaser posted photos taken in the Walt Disney World Resort version of the Tiana's Bayou Adventure queue — specifically of a French-language newspaper and an image depicting Tiana's father being awarded a medal.

The issue: the newspaper describes the award as posthumous, but the accompanying photo shows her father receiving it while very much alive.

“Only noticed it because we were stuck waiting,” the Disney Park guest wrote. “Decided to actually read the art they put up. Level of detail and creativity the Disney imagineers put into the spaces around the queue is awesome.”

The catch drew immediate attention in the comments.

“It says at the bottom of the picture that he is being presented with that medal,” u/CountofZen replied. “Very good catch, OP.”

Or Is It Actually Accurate?

Not everyone was ready to call it an error. Several commenters raised the possibility that the specific decoration in question — the French Croix de Guerre — could be awarded multiple times for separate acts of valor, potentially explaining the apparent contradiction.

“So while I usually enjoy seeing little errors and easter eggs like this—a little bit of googling has informed me that the Croix de Guerre or war cross was often awarded multiple times for different actions, could be awarded as a group or individually, and had different forms for different meanings (i.e. different types of stars that denote different levels of valor),” u/fishofhappiness wrote. “It would be entirely possible to be awarded this medal multiple times, and uniform regulation from the time even stated that multiple of war crosses could be worn at once.”

u/NowMuseumNowYouDont expanded on the historical context:

“The Harlem Hellfighters received a unit Croix de Guerre with silver star for their 191 days on the front line which was a record for US units. After that 171 members received an individual CdG for heroism. So it's possible the photo is him with his fellows receiving the unit CdG and then the article is about him receiving an individual one after his passing for heroism.”

Walt Disney World Resort has not addressed the debate or commented publicly on the queue detail in question.
