One of the biggest criticisms levied at the Walt Disney Company is its alleged “wokeness.” From former Disney CEO Bob Chapek speaking out against the “Don’t Say Gay” law (officially called the Parental Rights in Education Act) in Florida put forth by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to the casting of Black actress Halle Bailey in The Little Mermaid and Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell in Peter Pan and Wendy, the Mouse House has been under constant scrutiny for its practices.
This backlash, similar to what the Walt Disney Company and its Resorts, Walt Disney World Resort, and Disneyland Resort, face for their massively popular Gay Days and Pride Nite celebrations, comes from people who believe that Disney should refrain from commenting on things like sexuality.
However, recently, one employee who took to Facebook to express her disagreement with a Disney Plus (stylized as Disney+) show faced very real consequences for her actions.

Per the article, the Christian stylist, Sydney York, took to Facebook to respond to National Geographic special Pride from Above, calling it a “MOCKERY of the covenant God made with his people.”
York continued in her post, “Pride from above? Is pride claiming to be the prophet? Is Disney spelled upside down look like Jezebel (the name God calls intolerable) to you? Does the ‘+’ look like it could be an upside down cross? Should we tolerate her?”
York’s employer, Hair We Are Salon owner Jane Pryor, reportedly messaged her asking her to take down the post, and when York refused—“My Facebook is my page”—Pryor fired her for insubordination.
“The hair industry—the beauty industry—is a very woke industry, and I’ve kind of kept my ideas silent for a while,” The Daily Signal shared.
After firing York, Hair We Are Salon also released a public statement on Instagram condemning “homophobic remarks made by a former employee.”
Many customers of the salon commented on the post applauding the decision. One said, “I’ve had nothing but respect from this salon & I’m always treated with the best care. I’d never judge them on a one bad egg. Thanks for all the love!”
Another agreed, “Hair We Are Salon has always been a safe place for me!”
However, some users on Twitter disagreed. One replied to a tweet sharing the article with a concise “Lawsuit” implying that York could take legal action.
Another deemed it discrimination, saying it would make the salon “Christian-phobic.”
That would make the salon Christian-phobic.

York also disagrees that her post was homophobic. “I don’t think that’s homophobic. I have a little sister who’s gay,” she shared with The Daily Signal. “Choosing to be gay and advertising sexuality and sex changes to children are two completely different things.”
