“Feels Like a Concrete Parking Lot”: 3 Changes Disney Fans Want this Park to Make

It’s the Disney World Resort Park with lights, cameras, and action—but according to Disney fans, Hollywood Studios could use some cosmetic upgrades.

The third theme Park to hit the scene at Disney World, MGM Studios made its Hollywood debut in 1989. When it opened, MGM featured more live shows than thrill rides, highlighting the gilded glory of all things Old Hollywood. After Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) didn’t renew the license agreement for the Park in 2008, it was time for it to take on a new name: Hollywood Studios.

Not only was the name change a legal move, but it was also a strategy. The crowds at Disney were growing further from flicks like Singin’ in the Rain (1952) featured in the now-closed Great Movie Ride, and the broader name created space for current movies to enter the mix.

Ever since, the Park has worked to accommodate classic films with growing audiences. Crowd-pleasing attractions, like the immersive theme Park land: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, came into play. Even with Star Wars and incomparable Park hallmarks like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™, Hollywood Studio’s loyalists have ideas to help the ever-evolving Park take better shape.

The Park seems to have it all, but u/imadgalaxyx took to Reddit to see what Disney fanatics think it’s missing:

Redditors of WDW, what would you change about Hollywood Studios? The sky’s the limit!

The question fueled heated responses from nearly 200 commenters, and these are the three fundamental changes Guests want Hollywood Studios to make.

Shade

One chord struck most Disney fans in the thread: the lack of shade Hollywood Studios offers. A simple, yet resonant response came from u/IT_Chef:

Shade. The whole damn place feels like a concrete parking lot.

With so many tucked-away attractions, Hollywood Studios tends to leave little space shaded for Guests, especially near a Disney fan-favorite attraction: Slinky Dog Dash. Commenters also suggested more indoor people-eater attractions with high capacity. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land draw the crowds, but Guests are calling for more controlled (and air-conditioned) spaces at the Park.

More Muppets

Disney enthusiasts like u/whiteink-13 on the Reddit thread seem to have a Muppet vision, calling for a more dedicated piece of the Park for the beloved muppet crew:

More love for the Muppets! They need a whole section- a couple of rides, stores, meet and greets, etc.

Although Muppet Vision 3-D is solely situated on Grand Avenue, Disney fans have urged the Park to expand the Muppets’ footprint(s). Disney Guests have also proposed a popular refurbishment idea in recent months. While the Rock’ n’ Roller Coaster has been closed for renovations, Guests have suggested Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem replace Aerosmith.

Sit-Down Dining

According to posters like u/AndyInAtlanta, there is a lot to be desired in the dining department at Hollywood Studios:

Outside of Epcot, all three parks could use more sit down restaurants, and Hollywood Studios is the worst offender.

Although the Park offers dining options, including The Hollywood Brown Derby, 50’s Prime Time Cafe, Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, and the Hollywood and Vine Cafeteria, the location and structure of the Park make them hard to access. Opportunities to add more menu items to spots like Oga’s Cantina at Galaxy’s Edge were also proposed by Redditors.

We only give feedback about topics that matter to us, and the love for Hollywood Studios is evident in Disney enthusiasts everywhere. The Park has the most pressure to stay up to date with the latest hits in Hollywood, and with a lot more shade, a little more Muppets, and a few more dining options, it could be the best Park in Disney World.
