EPCOT is currently in the midst of its largest reimagining since the park opened in 1982, with the development of Future World into three distinct neighborhoods, World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery, as well as new pavilions, attractions, shops, restaurants, and more. One of the newest areas Imagineers are currently working on is the Connections Cafe, which will be opening in the site formerly occupied by Electric Umbrella. Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley recently took to Instagram to share an update:

The new marquee for Connections Cafe pictured above, as Riddley describes in his Instagram post, uses the classic EPCOT World Bold font, which Guests have already seen popping up all over the park. This cohesive theming with keeping fonts consistent among different areas of the park, especially in the neighborhoods outside of World Showcase, will add to the immersive experience Imagineers are hoping to create with EPCOT’s reimagining.

Connections Cafe in concept will be a departure from other Walt Disney World quick service restaurants as it will be part fast-casual dining experience and part cafe. The theme of the restaurant takes its cues from the basic theme of EPCOT as a community centered around connecting people from different cultures in a World’s Fair-type environment.

The new restaurant was announced last year at the Destination D23 event as part of the overhaul of EPCOT, and this update on the location’s marquee is the first construction update Disney has shared on the project. Connections Cafe and Eatery is definitely shaping up to showcase some of the original inspiration for EPCOT in its design and concept, and it will be interesting to see how this translates to the eatery’s menu and interior design.

We will keep you updated here on Disney Fanatic on all things EPCOT, and will share new details on Connections Cafe and other projects around the park as we have them.
