Former Disney CEO Calls Out Iger’s Handling of Jimmy Kimmel Controversy in Scathing Remarks

The entertainment world was recently shaken by the sudden suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC, a move that has sparked intense debate. While the suspension itself grabbed headlines, it was the response from former Disney CEO Michael Eisner that truly set the stage for a larger conversation about leadership at the top of Disney.

Eisner’s outspoken critique of Bob Iger’s handling of the situation has put the spotlight on the challenges Iger faces as he navigates this tumultuous period for the company.

For years, Bob Iger and Michael Eisner have been inextricably linked to Disney’s history. From Eisner’s iconic tenure, which transformed Disney into a global entertainment giant, to Iger’s leadership in the digital age, their paths have often crossed — but never without controversy.

With the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s show in response to a political skirmish, Eisner’s frustration with Iger’s leadership has come to the forefront, intensifying the already fraught atmosphere at Disney.

The situation began when Kimmel’s controversial comments about right-wing activist Charlie Kirk and Donald Trump led to widespread backlash. As tensions mounted, ABC and Disney made the decision to suspend the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show, a bold move that quickly escalated the situation.

Fans and industry insiders alike were quick to voice their displeasure, questioning whether Disney’s decision was driven by outside political forces rather than an independent corporate strategy.

In the midst of the uproar, Michael Eisner, who served as CEO of Disney from 1984 to 2005, did not shy away from offering his critique of Iger’s leadership.

In a tweet that sent waves through the industry, Eisner said:

Where has all the leadership gone?  If not for university presidents, law firm managing partners, and corporate chief executives standing up against bullies, who then will step up for the first amendment?  The “suspending indefinitely” of Jimmy Kimmel immediately after the Chairman of the FCC's aggressive yet hollow threatening of the Disney Company is yet another example of out-of-control intimidation.  Maybe the Constitution should have said, “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, except in one’s political or financial self-interest.” By-the-way, for the record, this ex-CEO finds Jimmy Kimmel very talented and funny.

For many Disney fans, Eisner’s words bring a sense of nostalgia for a time when Disney was navigating major changes under his leadership. During his tenure, Eisner oversaw the development of iconic projects like Disney California Adventure, Typhoon Lagoon, and the expansion into international markets.

His era was marked by both remarkable success and contentious moments, making his departure from the company as much about internal struggles as external achievements.

Despite his exit, Eisner’s influence on Disney is undeniable. His leadership redefined the company, and his candid nature has kept him a part of the conversation, especially when it comes to major events like Kimmel’s suspension.

The controversy surrounding Kimmel’s suspension began when FCC Chairman Brendan Carr made public statements threatening Disney, putting additional pressure on Iger and his team. With tensions growing, the suspension of Kimmel’s show became a flashpoint, sparking protests outside Disney’s Burbank headquarters. As more voices weighed in — from fans to fellow late-night hosts — the corporate giant found itself in a public relations nightmare.

The question now is whether Iger’s leadership is in jeopardy as Disney faces more of these high-profile controversies. Eisner’s comments cast doubt on Iger’s ability to stand firm in the face of external pressures. The suspension of Kimmel’s show, as Eisner suggested, may have been an overreaction to political influence, something that could potentially affect Disney’s standing with both employees and fans. Disney’s continued public image struggles suggest that Iger may have to reassess his approach to handling internal conflicts and media crises.

What do you think about Michael Eisner’s remarks on Bob Iger’s leadership? Do you believe that Iger’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! was the right one? Or do you agree with Eisner that stronger leadership is needed? How should Disney handle future controversies? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. First of all I wish Walt Disney was around. I don’t believe he’d be very happy with what’s happening to his company at present time.
I agree with Mr.Eisner. These massive companies that are succumbing to the Extortionist in Chief is disheartening at best! When CBS and Paramount did it to Stephen Colbert I cancelled paramount plus. Now I’m canceling Disney plus! I don’t shop at target I shop very little at Walmart and Amazon prime will be my next victim! And this goes for any other companies that bend the knee to the extortionist in Chief without putting up a fight!

  2. How I wish Eisner were back in control of the Disney empire! Bravo! The First Amendment is so important that I doubt even a Supreme Court largely owned by Trump would allow its desecration.

  3. OH my word. So, the democrats during the Biden time never cancelled any Republicans. Unbelievable.

  4. This is totally unbelievable! This is an employer they gave the employee a second chance and told him he needed to apologize for the lies not a joke he put out there about a man getting murdered. And made it a political move and it was in bad taste. He refused so he is getting what he deserves. They suspended whooping and Roseann was fired and etc. This man choose his outcome. Quit making he a mayor because he is not. If we wanted to make fun of his bad ratings and his family he would have a problem with it. He should of been fired for doing the black face like others were. Get real people!
