Disney World Walks Back ‘Frozen’ Ride Decision, Changes Could Come This Week

Walt Disney World Resort’s Frozen Ever After ride is scheduled for refurbishment from November 2 through November 6, 2024. The EPCOT Norway World Showcase Pavilion attraction remains controversial for its facial projection mapping animatronics and the comparison to its predecessor, Maelstrom.

Frozen Ever After replaced the beloved original boat ride in 2016. The ride loosely retells the familiar story from Disney’s Frozen (2013), featuring Princess Anna, Queen Elsa, Olaf, Sven, Kristoff, and other beloved characters. The transition from an original storyline to a Disney Princess property has stirred debate among fans about preserving classic narratives within Disney parks.

The ride has undergone refurbishments in the past, with the most recent one occurring in January 2024. Still, fans report repeated technical issues with the facial projection mapping animatronics.

Changes to Scheduling and Operational Hours

Months after the refurbishment was initially reported, confusion arose regarding updates on the official Walt Disney World Resort website and the My Disney Experience app. Initially, the website listed no operational hours for Frozen Ever After from November 2 to November 6.

Our friends at WDW Magazine also reported on the closure as recently as last week–but the refurbishment dates appear to have disappeared from Walt Disney World Resort’s website, further complicating matters for guests planning their visits.

It’s unclear if the Frozen Ever After refurbishment will go forward as scheduled. Disney Dining recommends continually checking the Walt Disney World Resort website and My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date operating information.

This refurbishment announcement only impacts the Frozen (2013) ride at EPCOT, not its twin attractions at Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. The international Disney parks have their own attraction refurbishment schedules that can be found on their websites.
