Get Ready for Chaos! ‘Freakier Friday’ Sequel Trailer Unveiled by Disney!

“Oh! I'm like the Crypt Keeper!”

If that line brought a smile to your face, you probably recognized it as one of Jamie Lee Curtis's memorable moments from the 2003 Disney film Freaky Friday. In this comedic remake, Curtis plays Tess Coleman, a strict single mom trying her best to raise her teenage daughter, Anna (played by Lindsay Lohan), and her younger brother, Harry.

Unfortunately, Tess and Anna are worlds apart and struggle to understand each other. Tess can't seem to grasp that Anna wants to be her own person and express herself creatively, especially through music and playing with her band.

On the other hand, Anna feels that her mom is too strict and doesn’t understand why Tess is so overbearing and unsupportive of the things she loves. Anna also thinks Tess's boyfriend, Ryan, is trying too hard and isn't interested in him stepping into a fatherly role in her life.

Then, after a surprising dinner at a Chinese restaurant, Anna and Tess are stunned to wake up in each other’s bodies.

For fans of the iconic 2003 body-swap comedy, Freaky Friday, the wait for a sequel has been long, but Disney has finally revealed the exciting news. The beloved stars, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, are set to reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman in Freakier Friday, the highly anticipated follow-up to the hit movie.

But here’s the big news: the new sequel is introducing a multigenerational twist, as Tess and Anna’s dynamic evolves with the addition of Anna’s own teenage daughter.

The new Freakier Friday brings in fresh challenges for the characters as Anna is now a mother herself, dealing with the complexities of raising a daughter while still learning from her own mother, Tess.

“I have talked about this for years, and it was really just one phone call to Bob Iger to make it happen,” Curtis shared. This announcement marks the reunion of Curtis and Lohan, who fans have long hoped would return to these roles.

The film, set to premiere on August 8, 2025, is not just a return to the classic body-swapping fun. This time, the story dives into more complex family dynamics. Anna’s daughter, played by Julia Butters, and her soon-to-be stepdaughter, played by Sophia Hammons, will join the Coleman family, adding a new layer of humor and heartfelt moments as Tess and Anna navigate their evolving relationships.

The story focuses on the blending of two families and how Tess and Anna’s relationship has matured over the years, with the return of familiar faces like Chad Michael Murray as Anna’s love interest, Jake, and Mark Harmon as Ryan, Tess’s partner.

This sequel is shaping up to appeal to both nostalgic fans of the original and a new generation of moviegoers, offering a blend of humor, heart, and the chaos that fans loved from the first film. “It’s the same, but different,” Curtis teased, suggesting that while the new movie brings back the signature swap antics, there’s much more to the story this time.

The addition of new characters will bring a fresh perspective to the family-centered chaos. As Anna tries to navigate her complicated relationship with her teenage daughter and new stepdaughter, she must come to terms with the reality of raising children and figuring out where her own mother fits into that equation.

With Freakier Friday promising to deliver more of the heartwarming and humorous family moments that made the first film a hit, Disney fans won’t want to miss this latest installment. The film is sure to strike a balance between nostalgia and new experiences as the Coleman family faces their final, yet comical, body-swap challenges.
