Guest Frustrated by These Two Major Character Meet-and-Greet Issues at Disney

For over 100 years, The Walt Disney Company has brought some of the most beloved characters to life. From timeless classics like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck to iconic princesses such as Snow White, Moana, and Tiana, Disney’s characters have captured the hearts of fans worldwide. Villains like Ursula, Maleficent, and Dr. Facilier add excitement, while sidekicks like Olaf bring joy and laughter.

Interacting with these beloved characters is one of the most magical parts of visiting Walt Disney World Resort in Florida or Disneyland Resort in California. At Disneyland, characters like Alice, the Mad Hatter, Pooh, Tigger, Captain Hook, and Peter Pan often roam the parks, greeting Guests and posing for spontaneous photos.

At Walt Disney World, character meet-and-greets can be scheduled in advance, allowing Guests to plan their interactions. While Disney has perfected many aspects of these magical encounters, some areas still need improvement.

Recently, TikToker Aldinerd (@arit_shop) shared her experiences from a week-long trip to Walt Disney World and pointed out a few things that could enhance the character interaction experience.

Character Meet-and-Greet Hours Need to Be Extended

Arit_shop’s first observation was that characters should be available from park opening to park closing. While she acknowledges that performers need breaks, she questions why characters like Minnie Mouse are only available for limited hours when the park operates much longer.

  • Many Guests plan their day around character interactions, and limited hours can make it difficult to fit them in.
  • Extending character hours could enhance Guest satisfaction, ensuring more people meet their favorites.
  • Staggered shifts could allow longer meet-and-greet availability while giving performers necessary breaks.

PhotoPass Photographers Should Be Present at Character Meals

Another key issue Arit_shop pointed out is the lack of PhotoPass photographers at character dining experiences. Popular restaurants like Chef Mickey’s and Tusker House offer magical interactions where Disney characters visit each table.

However, Guests must take their photos, often leading to challenges:

  • Families may struggle to get a complete group picture since one person usually takes the photo.
  • Many character interactions result in selfies instead of high-quality images.
  • Given the high cost of character dining (which can exceed $200 for a family meal), including a professional photographer would enhance the experience.

While some locations offer pre-dining photo opportunities, in-meal PhotoPass coverage is not guaranteed. Implementing dedicated PhotoPass photographers at every character meal could provide professional-quality photos, making the experience more memorable and worthwhile.

What’s Working Well with Disney Character Interactions?

Despite these challenges, Disney still excels in creating memorable character experiences.

  • Spontaneous interactions at Disneyland allow Guests to meet characters without waiting in long lines.
  • Themed character meet-and-greets at Walt Disney World—such as meeting Mickey Mouse in his magician outfit at Town Square Theater—add a special touch.
  • Themed dining experiences, like meeting Disney Princesses at Wish Makers Enchanted Dining, provide exclusive interactions with multiple characters.
  • Seasonal events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party feature unique character appearances and rare meet-and-greet opportunities.

How Disney Could Improve Character Experiences

Enhancing the character meet-and-greet experience would elevate Guest satisfaction and create even more magical moments.

Here are a few suggested improvements:

  • Extend character appearance times so more Guests can meet them throughout the day.
  • Implement virtual queues for high-demand character meet-and-greets to reduce wait times.
  • Add more character roaming opportunities at Walt Disney World, similar to Disneyland’s spontaneous interactions.
  • Ensure PhotoPass photographers are available at all character dining locations to provide high-quality, professional photos.

Final Thoughts: Making Character Meet-and-Greets Even More Magical

Character interactions are a core part of the Disney Parks experience, and while Disney has done a fantastic job, there is always room for improvement.

By listening to Guest feedback and making thoughtful adjustments—such as extending character hours and adding more PhotoPass photographers—Disney could make these moments even more magical.

Despite these concerns, Arit_shop and her family still had an unforgettable vacation at Walt Disney World and plan to return. After all, the magic of Disney keeps fans coming back time and time again.
