Cast Member Recalls Guest Losing Fingers on Popular Disney Ride

Many people who visit Walt Disney World Resort know that, before every ride begins, there is a message telling Guests to keep their hands, arms, feet, and legs inside the ride vehicle at all times. This is done in an attempt to keep both Guests and Cast Members safe. Even if the attraction is slow and tame, there are still things that can happen to cause injury. Unfortunately, even though the warnings are said each and every time, some Guests don’t think that things are that serious. That leads to warnings being ignored and, sometimes, serious injuries happening.

TikToker Sweaty Oracle (@sweatyoracle), used to be a Cast Member at Disney World, working in the Magic Kingdom. According to his story, a Guest walked up the exit ramp, through the gift shop, and to the Cast Member standing at the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean. The Guest looked at the Cast Member, said “I think I lost something on your ride,” then held up his hand, which was missing several fingers!

The Guest had apparently put his hand in the water at the beginning of the attraction and kept it there as the boat moved along. He did not remove his hand before the boat went down the small drop. That is where he reportedly lost some of his fingers. What shocked Sweaty Oracle the most about the whole thing was how calm the Guest was. Per the story, the Guest was a retired British Colonel. At no point did the colonel scream or let people know what had happened until the ride was over, and he was off the boat.

Before medical professionals showed up, the TikToker says that the man was “whisked away” by Disney lawyers. Then, some members of the Imagineering department showed up. They then took hot dogs — yes, hot dogs — stuck them on dowels, and repeatedly rode the attraction until none of the hot dogs — which were imitating fingers — were damaged. The ride then reopened WITH THE MAN’S FINGERS STILL SOMEWHERE IN THE WATER.

The TikToker didn’t know what happened to the man’s fingers. He just knows that the ride wasn’t even down for four hours before Guests were allowed back on. He also remembers other Cast Members making hot dog jokes to Guests.

While injuries like this are most likely a rare occurrence at Disney Parks, they can happen. So, if you are visiting Disney, please make sure to listen to the safety protocols and DO NOT stick your hands, arms, feet, or legs where they are not supposed to go. Telling people that you lost limbs at Disney because you ignored the rules isn’t the cool story you think it will be.
