Some Disney fans believe that adults without children are to blame for the declining magic of the parks.

“To all who come to this happy place, welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future.”

When people think about planning a vacation, a lot of them think of a trip to a Disney Resort. Disney is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. Disney has theme parks all around the globe — Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disneyland Resort in California, Tokyo Disneyland, Shanghai Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland.

While a lot of people may think that Disney is for kids, more and more people are realizing that it is a magical place, no matter how old you are.

Unfortunately, a lot of ire is being directed at a certain group of people — Disney adults. Disney adults are people who love visiting the Parks, wearing Disney clothes, buying Disney merchandise, and spending a lot of time streaming Disney+.

Some of these Disney adults do not have children, but that does not stop them from visiting the theme parks on a regular basis. However, some people think that these childless adults should not only stop visiting, but they are actually ruining the Parks for everyone else.

Disney Adults

Redditor u/turlockmike took to the platform to say that adults who visit Disney are making the Parks miserable for everyone else. They are causing the Parks to become too expensive and are making the attraction lines too long.

When I was a kid growing up in the 90s, my parents took us to disney world, it was a lot of fun, we got to ride all the rides we wanted, see everything, stay at a disney hotel and it was affordable for our modest income. 2 years ago, we took our kids. I make twice as much as my dad did back then and the disney hotels were insanely priced, couldn’t afford it. We still got a nice place to stay though, but outside of the parks. But when we went to the parks, it was basically all adults everywhere. The rides that were for the youngest kids were basically empty, but any ride that appealed to adults had insanely long lines, like 3 hours or more. We didn’t get to ride any of the cool new rides other than the few we could get a fastpass (or genie pass, not sure what it’s called).

Disney world and disney land are for kids. Anyone over 21 visiting that isn’t on their honeymoon or with their kids is making the place miserable. There are way more fun things to do, go do those and leave disney alone.

Edit; If you never got to go to disney world as a kid, fine, no one has an issue with first time visitors. That’s not the issue.

The Reddit user’s opinion definitely divided other users. Some agreed that if the “extra” adults weren’t going to the parks, the prices would be cheaper. The “extra” adults are causing an increase in demand and a decrease in supply.

However, others pointed out that Disney is targeting more adults — especially with the amount of alcohol currently being sold in the parks.

Drinking around the world is very popular with guests who visit EPCOT in Walt Disney World. Disney California Adventure Park in Disneyland also hosts Food & Wine Festivals and is known for its specialty drinks.

Disney is also making a lot more content targeting an older audience in an attempt to get them to sign up for or remain a subscriber on Disney+.

Others made the valid point that it is the adults who actually pay for everything at Disney. Disney doesn’t care if those adults have children or if they are by themselves.

What matters is that the adults have money that they are willing to spend in the parks. It was also pointed out that Disney is for everyone, since a company is “for profit.”

And let’s not forget, when Walt Disney opened the gates of Disneyland Park, he welcomed everyone.

  1. I resent being told I ruin the parks for kids. I came as a young adult, brought my children as they grew up, and now come as a senior citizen. I’m a longtime AP, DVC member, D23 member, and now a cast member. I don’t stand in long lines because I have ridden and seen everything in the parks. When something new comes along, if I get previews as an AP, DVC, or CM, I go. If not, I wait until the hullabaloo dies down and then go. I do not get drunk and stagger around the park, yelling loudly. I spend a lot of money on food and merchandise and help keep the parks running. Walt created the parks for the young and the young at heart. That’s all of us. I wouldn’t mind a day set aside for ONLY adults, with no strollers running into me, no screaming, whiny kids, no parents yelling at kids, no kids banging into me in lines or sitting on the railings or swinging on the ropes and chains. How about that?

  2. Wow, that person is miserable and is taking it out on everyone else. Disney is for all! I have no kids and visit every year with my sister. It’s OUR vacation. Is Cedar Point, Dollyworld, Six Flags, Sea World only for kids or adults with kids?! What is this persons problem?! Sounds like she’s the only one trying to ruin it for everyone else. Maybe she needs an ADULT only vacation at Disney World to understand how wrong she is.

  3. The person who made this comment is a moron. Who are they tell someone else what they can/can’t do? Shut up and deal with it.

  4. We’re DVC members and have taken our girls since they were small. They are now adults and we go as a family. So, we still take our “children”, have a wonderful time, and stay young at heart!

  5. Walt created the parks for the young and the young at heart. That’s all of us.

The world needs accepting others. Hate is not accepted! Peace and safety at the parks are for all!
Peace to all including morons. Did I write that? oops!

  6. Disney is for everyone from young to old. We are seniors and go once in a blue moon. But took our daughter until she was grown. Took our granddaughters also. Walt would turn over in his grave. This person is a entitled (Karen). I say again Disney is for all and all is welcome.

  7. I live in England and could not afford to go to Disney when I was young. I have been going every year since 1991 and save up especially for this. I am now 75 and a DVC Member which I have been for a long time now. I have a big family and my grandchildren and children now love Disney after we have been with them several times, I am sure when I cannot go anymore my family will still keep up the tradition of going to Disney. I cannot believe that someone can be so horrible and rude, I may be 75 but I am still one of the biggest kids at heart. I actually am not well enough to go on the rides this person is so upset about but am happy to pay the fee to just enjoy the atmosphere so stop being a miserable person and just go and enjoy being alive and able to go.

  8. This person and all of the Tourists with undisciplined kids should just stay where they live and take their yell screaming crying unruly kids to local attractions in their own areas and leave the Parks to the tru fans and longtime fans who grew up with Disney THE ADULTS!!!!
I for one am tired of the MILLIONS OF HIGE STROLLERS
THOUSANDS OF UNRULY KIDS running rampid uncontrolled by their in experienced parents. You can even go to ANY place at any park to enjoy eating a meal because of unruly in monitored kids. I grew up with Disney We always went to the Drive In during Thanksgiving’s to see the newest released Disney Movie and I support Disney with love and passion til this day and will continue to do so

  9. We do have to show a bit of consideration for families with children under 21.
There should be a rule the parks reserved for families with children under 21 and have about 2 open house sessions a day for all ages with valid ticket. Childless adults won’t be permitted in the parks unless if it’s open house session

  10. When I was last at a Disney park, it was to work … I was a radio personality and we went live in NY from the Anaheim park. There was NO ALCOHOL in the park.. not anywhere. Not even in the executive dining room. 1988.

The lines were manageable, The crowds loaded with kids.

Now in Florida, I have been to Orlando once. Back in 1986! 😉 It too was fun, along with Epcot, but again it was a quick, working weekend. My son and I walked miles and miles. Lines were manageable and again, no liquor anywhere.

Today I am lucky, grandkids’ other grandma lives 7 miles from Disney. SHE takes them And I am happy to never have to return to any of these parks again. I find the cost insulting. And I can afford it. I CHOOSE not to pay those outrageous admissions fees.

As for adults “ruining” these places … well for one thing, we are entitled to go too. We pay too. But WHY an adult without little ones would WANT to go, that is another question. For me… been there, done that. Not again.
