Across both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, Black History Month is being honored with experiences centered on culture, creativity, and community. Guests visiting the parks will find everything from live entertainment to culinary creations designed to recognize Black artists and storytellers.

At Magic Kingdom, the month began with a special parade led by Toya Johnson-Rushing, who served as honorary Grand Marshal. The celebratory kickoff featured lively music and appearances from classic Disney characters, welcoming guests into a month dedicated to honoring Black heritage.

EPCOT continues the tribute during the International Festival of the Arts. In addition to showcasing work from notable Black visual artists, the festival includes Disney On Broadway performances highlighting remarkable Black talent performing songs from beloved productions.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers its own lineup of entertainment. Guests can catch Viva Gaia’s Caribbean-inspired performances or experience the driving beats of the Tam Tam Drummers of Harambe. Over at Disney Springs, limited-time treats such as a soulful New York cheesecake pop and a Wakandan mousse are available, and artwork by Black creators is displayed throughout the shopping and dining district.

The result is a resort-wide celebration that blends entertainment and education, giving guests of all ages a chance to experience different forms of artistic expression.

Magic Kingdom guests may notice a change to one of the park’s daily entertainment offerings this month.

The Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade has welcomed Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen to its rotating roster of characters. The short parade-style experience, which makes its way from Frontierland to Main Street, U.S.A. each morning, already includes nearly 30 Disney and Pixar characters such as Pocahontas, Mulan, and Bruno Madrigal.

The royal couple’s appearance is part of the Celebrate Soulfully celebration and is currently scheduled to run through the end of February. The cavalcade performs twice each day, giving guests multiple chances to spot the characters as they pass by in colorful fashion.

While the format of the cavalcade hasn’t changed, the addition of Tiana and Naveen offers fans of The Princess and the Frog (2009) a seasonal treat. Their involvement further ties Magic Kingdom’s entertainment lineup to the growing presence of the franchise within the park.

That presence became permanent in 2024 with the debut of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The attraction replaced Splash Mountain following years of discussion and redevelopment. Since opening, the ride has sparked conversation among fans, with some embracing the new theme and others noting technical difficulties involving certain animatronics.

Despite early operational hiccups, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure remains a major draw for guests. A sister version of the attraction is also located at Disneyland Park in Disneyland Resort, bringing the bayou-inspired adventure to both coasts.

With Tiana and Naveen stepping into the cavalcade spotlight for February, Magic Kingdom continues to build on its Princess and the Frog offerings.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
