EPCOT visitors are buzzing after discovering a major shift inside one of the park’s most popular attractions. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure—known for its playful chaos, layered visuals, and energetic chase scenes—has officially ditched its 3-D effects. The ride now operates entirely in 2-D, and guests are already noticing a dramatic difference.
This wasn’t a heavily promoted update. In fact, Disney rolled out the change quietly. But the moment guests board their rat-shaped vehicles, it becomes clear that something significant has changed… and not for the better.

A Sudden Change That Alters the Entire Experience
The original version of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure relied heavily on 3-D illusions to pull riders into the animated world. The glasses sharpened the action, enhanced depth, and hid the emptier parts of the show spaces. Without them, the attraction’s projection rooms look much more like large, open warehouses than immersive environments.
The first rooftop encounter with Gusteau sets the tone for the entire ride. His appearance feels flatter, less lively, and far less enveloping than before. While the projection clarity has improved, the absence of visual depth makes the scene noticeably less magical.
That shift continues through every major moment of the attraction.
When a Ride Designed for Depth Suddenly Flattens
The new 2-D version reveals how deeply the attraction depended on 3-D to sell its storytelling. The ride lacks the physical set pieces and animatronic elements that normally carry a 2-D attraction. Instead, Remy’s relies almost entirely on projections—projections that were never meant to be viewed without depth.
As a result, guests can now see the full scale of each projection room. Transitions between scenes feel sharper and less organic. Chase sequences no longer fill your field of vision. And moments that once felt urgent now appear more like scenes playing out on a screen in front of you.
The “wow” is gone—not because the story changed, but because the format did.

Fans Immediately Noticed the Decline
Guests who revisited the ride after the update have been surprised by how different it feels. Some appreciate the smoother, more comfortable visual experience, especially those sensitive to 3-D. But most riders seem caught off guard by how much immersion the attraction has lost.
Reports across social platforms describe the experience as “emptier,” “less exciting,” and “not what it used to be.” Many expressed shock that such a small technical change created such a drastic shift in tone.
It’s rare for a Disney ride to feel like a downgraded version of itself, but this update is sparking that exact conversation.
A Well-Intentioned Move With Unintended Consequences
Disney didn’t set out to break the ride. The move toward accessibility is admirable. But turning a projection-heavy 3-D attraction into a flat 2-D one without adding new physical elements creates a noticeable void.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure still has charm, heart, and Pixar personality—but the sense of being dropped into Remy’s world just doesn’t land the same way anymore.
EPCOT Fans Hope Fixes Are Still Coming
For now, the change is permanent, and Disney hasn’t announced any additional enhancements to balance out the shift. Guests are hoping that more updates—like new set pieces or improved transitions—will follow.
Until then, the overnight transformation of this EPCOT favorite serves as a reminder that even small adjustments can have big effects.
Disney may not have intended it, but the magic surrounding this beloved attraction flickered… and for many fans, it hasn’t fully come back.
